How Would Manchester United Have Lined Up Had They Signed Riyad Mahrez?

Although Riyad Mahrez couldn’t manage to find a team before the end of the summer transfer window, one can’t help but imagine him in Manchester United’s starting XI. The Algerian international and Premier League winner with Leicester City surely deserves to be in a bigger club.

Mahrez under Mourinho would have been a dream for any Manchester United fan but the Portuguese manager is already content with the squad at his disposal. Riyad Mahrez is an exceptional talent and is unfortunate not to be at an established like Manchester United.

Let’s take a look at how the Red Devils could have lined up had the £40m rated Riyad Mahrez signed for the Manchester club this summer.

Team

Manager: Jose Mourinho

Formation: 4-2-3-1

GK – David de Gea

As always, David de Gea keeps his place in the first team ahead of Sergio Romero. The Spaniard is yet to concede a goal in the Premier League this season.

RB – Antonio Valencia

Manchester United’s most experienced and most consistent player has no threat for his position and will be in his usual role at RB.

CB – Eric Bailly

The Ivorian has been spectacular for the Red Devils since he joined the club last summer and is only getting better and better with time.

CB – Phil Jones

The England international centre-back has fought his way back into the side and has done exceptionally well so far this season and hence keeps his place in Mourinho’s team.

LB – Daley Blind

The Dutchman has taken up a makeshift role at left-back in the place of the injured Luke Shaw. Mourinho has a lot of trust in the 27-year-old.

CM –Nemanja Matic

The summer signing from Chelsea has been rock solid in the midfield and has showcased that he is going to be a vital player for the Red Devils for the rest of the season.

CM – Paul Pogba

Manchester United’s most expensive player has had a brilliant season so far and looks much more confident going forward. Pogba will definitely look to add more goals to his tally of 2 in 3 games so far.

Riyad Mahrez

RW – Riyad Mahrez

What could have been but, the Algerian would be a threat to any defence in the Premier League with his dribbling and his exceptional ability to create chances out of nothing. Mahrez can get past defenders in a jiffy with the support of Mkhitaryan and Paul Pogba in the team.

CAM – Henrikh Mkhitaryan

The 28-year-old Armenian international has been the brain behind Manchester United’s influx of goals this season and will be the one setting the tempo in games.

LW – Marcus Rashford

It’s quite an achievement for the teenager to replace Anthony Martial in the team and to do so consistently speaks volumes about Marcus Rashford. The England international is certainly the future of the club and a star in the making.

ST – Romelu Lukaku

The Belgian monstrosity is a constant goal threat and is the leading goal scorer in the Premier League with three goals in three games. How can he not start?
