Predicted Manchester City Line-up To Face Shaktar Donetsk In The Champions League

Manchester City will welcome Ukrainian champions Shakhtar Donetsk to the Etihad Stadium, as the two sides clash in the group game of the UEFA Champions League, on Tuesday night.

The Citizens are off to a blistering start to the new season and have been a real force going forward in the attack, blowing away every opponent that have come in their way. Pep Guardiola’s men thrashed Dutch giants Feyenoord 4-0 in their previous European encounter and come into the game in ominous form, having battered Crystal Palace 5-0 in the Premier League, over the weekend.

Team News

Captain Vincent Kompany and midfielder Ilkay Gundogan are doubtful for the game, along with summer signing Benjamin Mendy who picked up a knock over the weekend.

Here’s how City may line up against Shakhtar on Tuesday:

Manager: Pep Guardiola

Formation: 4-1-3-2

Ederson Moraes (GK)

The Brazilian has begun life in England on a strong note. He is the No.1 option for Guardiola, ahead of Claudio Bravo, and will man the goal against the Ukrainian outfit.

Ederson Moraes

Kyle Walker (RB)

The England international is another player who has established himself as a crucial part of the team, following his big-money move from Tottenham. A definite starter at right-back.

John Stones (CB)

After a poor debut season, the former Evertonian is finally flourishing at City and has enjoyed a fine start to the season. Scored twice against Feyenoord in the previous European game and will be high on confidence.

Nicolas Otamendi (CB)

The Argentine centre-half will partner Stones in the heart of the defence and will look to keep the threat of Facundo Ferreyra to a minimum.

Danilo (LB)

With Ben Mendy a doubt for the game, Danilo is all set to make his first Champions League appearance of the season, at left-back.

Danilo

Fernandinho (DM)

The Brazilian anchorman will go up against his former side where he spent eight years between 2005 and 2013. Will be keen on putting in a strong display.

Kevin De Bruyne (RW)

While both Raheem Sterling and Bernardo Silva have been in splendid form, we could see them kept out of the playing XI, in order to accommodate two strikers at the top. And that would mean Kevin De Bruyne moving to the right flank.

David Silva (CAM)

The assist king has been slaying defences with his vision and creativity. Has already registered 7 assists in all competitions. Will start in the No.10 role.

Gabriel Jesus

Leroy Sane (LW)

The German winger is another player who’s in hot form for City, having scored once and assisted twice against Palace in the weekend. Will start on the left wing.

Gabriel Jesus (ST)

The Brazilian has already netted 5 times this season in all competitions. Having been benched for the weekend game, he should come back into the starting XI.

Sergio Aguero (ST)

The Argentine international is just 2 goals away from becoming the highest ever goal-scorer for Manchester City, getting past Eric Brooks’ tally of 177. Another historic moment beckons for the striker on Tuesday.
