Iheanacho In – How Leicester City Might Line Up With The Nigerian In The Side

After lifting the Premier League title in the 2015-16 season, Leicester City failed to retain their form and had to let go of their title winning manager in Claudio Ranieri. They managed to finish above the relegation zone, having appointed Craig Shakespeare midway through last season and the new manager now has his work cut out this summer.

The Foxes have added the likes of Vicente Iborra, Eldin Jakupovic and Harry Maguire to their squad from the previous season but were searching for a striker to add to their squad too. They have successfully signed Kelechi Iheanacho from Manchester City for £25m. Now that they have added the Nigerian to their roster, how will they line up witht the highly talented youngster in the team?

Formation (4-3-3)

Defence

Shakespeare is expected to continue with the 4-3-3 system he played recently against Burton Albion in a friendly and English shot stopper Kasper Schmeichel should start in goal as the first choice this season as well. Christian Fuchs should continue at left-back while Daniel Amartey, who did a decent job last season, is expected to be a backup for Danny Simpson, who should keep his place at right-back.

Newbie Harry Maguire should be the first choice centre-back for Shakespeare and he could be teamed up with skipper Wes Morgan at the heart of the defence this season. The likes of Ben Chilwell, Yohan Benalouane and Robert Huth should all act as backups in the squad.

Midfield

Marc Albrighton was yet again dependable last season and he should keep his place on the left-hand side of the midfield three while newbie Vicente Iborra should play as the deepest of the midfielders. Andy King was used as a part of the midfield in that game against Burton but Wilfried Ndidi could play in the first-team’s midfield this season. The likes of Danny Drinkwater, Nampalys Mendy and Andy King could all play their roles too.

Attack

Jamie Vardy is not expected to leave anytime soon and is expected to start as the striker while Riyad Mahrez should keep his place on the right flank if he stays back at the club. Kelechi Iheanacho might be given the chance to shine in this role if Mahrez leaves the club, amidst links with Roma.

Ahmed Musa should start on the other wing but if Mahrez decides to stay, Iheanacho might have to fight with Musa for that place on the wing. Islam Slimani, Shinji Okazaki and Leonardo Ujjoa will all act as backups.

Kelechi Iheanacho

Leicester might yet settle for a 4-4-2 system, which will see Mahrez and Albrighton on either wing in the midfield. Iheanacho and Vardy can act as the duo up front, adding dynamism to the whole squad. How do you think Leicester will line up next season?
