How Would Liverpool Lineup If Klopp Ends Up Signing Lemar Or Pastore In January

Philippe Coutinho’s impending transfer from Liverpool continues to be a widely speculated topic. With the winter window coming up, there’s a lot of renewed reports which suggest that he could go through with his move to join Barcelona. If that happens, the Reds will need to seek out reinforcements to ensure their attack continues to be strong.

There is no denying Philippe Coutinho’s influence and impact at Liverpool. His vision and playmaking skills have often rescued the Reds out of tricky situations while also providing them with ample support going forward. They continue to be defensively frail at the back but if Coutinho leaves, Jurgen Klopp will have to scope out options for the January window.

Thomas Lemar and Javier Pastore have both been linked with a move to Anfield. January might be the time when Klopp actually gets to acquire their services but then how would they fit in at Liverpool? Let’s take a look at how both these players can slot into Klopp’s squad in the absence of Coutinho.

Javier Pastore

Liverpool In A 4-2-1-3 With Thomas Lemar

Sadio Mane (LW)

Mane could continue in his usual role at left-wing since he has been an unstoppable force for Liverpool. In the event of an injury, Lemar could fill in for him like Coutinho has done so far.

Thomas Lemar (CAM)

The £90m rated Lemar thrives as an attacking midfielder and his playmaking skills can be put to good use in this position.

Mohamed Salah (RW)

Salah shall take up his usual role on the right since his pace and accuracy remains unmatched.

Roberto Firmino (CF)

The Brazilian will be aided by the support of prolific players like Salah, Mane and Lemar too, if he’s signed by the Reds.

Liverpool In A 4-3-3 With Javier Pastore

Sadio Mane (LW)

Although Pastore’s pace and trickery can help in this position, Mane is not an easy player to replace. Hence, even with Pastore in the squad, Klopp is likely to deploy Mane in his usual role unless he brings Pastore in with the sole intention of providing competition to the Senegalese.

Javier Pastore (CAM)

At PSG, Javier’s form took a dip when he had to occupy a wider role. The player is an out-and-out No. 10. Hence, it only seems fitting that Liverpool bring in a true blue No. 10 to replace Coutinho. Reports suggest that Liverpool can sign the player if they met PSG’s £18m asking price.

Mohamed Salah (RW)

Like in the previous set up, Salah shall continue on the right-wing.

Roberto Firmino (CF)

Firmino should occupy his usual role as a centre-forward.
