Predicted Wigan Athletic line-up to face Blackburn in the Championship

Wigan Athletic host a second successive game at DW Stadium as they welcome Blackburn Rovers on Wednesday.

The Latics were held to a frustrating 0-0 draw by Reading last Saturday. Manager Paul Cook will expect his boys to put up a better display and get all three points.

Blackburn Rovers, meanwhile, come into Wednesday’s game on the back of a devastating 4-1 defeat at Preston.

Team News

Nick Powell became the latest Wigan Athletic player to get injured. He’ll certainly miss the Blackburn game.

Gavin Massey and Michael Jacobs are already out until the New Year, with defenders Chey Dunkley and Antonee Robinson out until the festive period with knee and ankle problems respectively.

Probable Wigan Athletic XI

Formation: 4-4-1-1

Manager: Paul Cook

Christian Walton (GK)

Walton has been Cook’s first choice in goal. He should start against Blackburn.

Reece James (RB)

Reece James has been a consistent performer for the Latics. He is one of the first few names to be on the team sheet.

Cedric Kipre (CB)

Kipre will look to keep the Blackburn forwards at bay. With Dunkley out injured, Kipre needs to start taking extra responsibility in managing the backline.

Dan Burn (CB)

Burn is an experienced defender who will have to be at his best to stop Blackburn on Wednesday.

Kal Naismith (LB)

Naismith did extremely well in a makeshift left-back position against Reading. He should keep his place in the team.

Darron Gibson (CM)

Gibson is a very good recycler of possession. An aggressive player, he’ll look to disrupt Blackburn’s play while also creating opportunities for his teammates.

Sam Morsy (CM)

A tenacious midfielder, Morsy keeps things ticking for Wigan with his distribution skills and leadership qualities.

Nathan Byrne (RM)

Byrne brings raw pace and directness to the Wigan attack. He is expected to start on the right on Wednesday.

Gary Roberts (LM)

Roberts is a tireless worker who is still going strong at the age of 34. Should start this game.

Josh Windass (SS)

Windass is a versatile player who will be important for Wigan in unlocking the Blackburn defence.
