Predicted Wigan Athletic line-up to face Derby in the Championship

Wigan Athletic look ahead to their next Championship game as they welcome Derby County at the DW Stadium on Saturday.

The Latics drew their last game with Bolton and have not inspired much confidence in the last month or so. They lie 15th in the table with 25 points after 20 games.

Derby County, meanwhile, are seventh in the table with 34 points and come into this game on the back of a 2-1 victory over Swansea City.

Team News

Gavin Massey, Michael Jacobs, Antonee Robinson and Chey Dunkley are long-term casualties, while Nick Powell is a doubt for Saturday’s game.

Probable Wigan Athletic XI

Formation: 4-4-1-1

Manager: Paul Cook

Christian Walton (GK)

Walton has been a reliable presence between the sticks for Wigan. He should start against Derby.

Reece James (RB)

Given the form he is in, James is indispensable to Cook’s squad.

Cedric Kipre (CB)

Strong and powerful in the air, Kipre will look to keep things tight at the back against Derby.

Dan Burn (CB)

Burn will have to be at his best to keep Marriott and co. at bay on Saturday.

Kal Naismith (LB)

Naismith has performed extremely well in the makeshift left-back role. He is certain to retain his place in the team.

Nathan Byrne (RM)

With his pace and dribbling skills, Byrne can be a handful for the Derby defenders.

Lee Evans (CM)

Evans is an intelligent player. He can be creative and also destructive as per the game’s need.

Sam Morsy (CM)

Morsy’s presence gives Wigan’s engine room a different flavour. The Egyptian is a crucial cog in Cook’s team and is certain to start at home against Derby.

Gary Roberts (LM)

Roberts’ work rate is extraordinary and is a player who doesn’t shy away from giving 100% on the pitch.

Josh Windass (SS)

Windass’ presence in the Wigan team would be important as he has the ability to carve open the opposition with one pass.

Will Grigg (ST)

Grigg scored in the 1-1 draw with Bolton last weekend and will be hungry to get on the scoresheet again.
