Predicted Burnley line-up to face Newcastle United in the Premier League

Burnley picked up an important 0-0 draw against Leicester City in the league last time out, but Sean Dyche’s men have otherwise made a poor start to their season after mounting a superb Europan bid last season.

The Clarets are languishing just one point above the relegation zone as they come up against fellow strugglers Newcastle United in the league this weekend. The Magpies visit Turf Moor after having picked up a win against Bournemouth and will be aiming to maintain their form during the festive season.

Team News

Nick Pope, Steven Defour, Ben Gibson and Stephen Ward are all out for this game. James Tarkowski and Berg Gudmundsson are the latest to be sidelined and while the latter is definitely ruled out, the former has an outside chance of making the matchday squad.

Probable Burnley XI

Manager: Sean Dyche

Formation: 4-4-2

Joe Hart (GK)

Hart will definitely retain his place given that he has made the most saves by any goalkeeper in the league this season.

Joe Hart

Matt Lowton (RB)

Has been very inconsistent but will nevertheless start this game on the right flank.

Kevin Long (CB)

Long did well in the absence of James Tarkowski last time out. He should start this one as well.

Ben Mee (CB)

Mee has been their most consistent defender over the years but he hasn’t lived up to the standards this season.

Charlie Taylor (LB)

Taylor should continue to raid down the left flank. However, he hasn’t provided much going forward.

Ben Mee

Aaron Lennon (RM)

Lennon should continue on the right flank after looking better in the last game. He too has lacked the end product in his game.

Jeffrey Hendrick (RCM)

Hendrick should take the place of the injured Steven Defour and dictate the play in central midfield.

Jack Cork (LCM)

Cork needs to be more agile defensively and put in stronger shifts. He should partner Hendrick in the middle of the park.

Robbie Brady (LM)

Brady is definitely capable of punishing the Magpies with his incisive passing and ability on the ball.

Sam Vokes

Sam Vokes (ST)

Hasn’t really hit top gear this season. Vokes should do more going forward.

Chris Wood (ST)

Scored so many goals towards the end of last season but he has started this one in poor form. This might be the game to revive his confidence.
