Predicted Derby County line-up to face Reading in the EFL Championship

Derby County open their 2018/19 Championship season against Reading at the Madejski Stadium on Friday night.

It will be Frank Lampard’s first competitive match as a manager and he would love to start on a winning note.

Lampard has made some exciting signings this summer to build his squad capable of challenging for Premier League promotion.

Team News

Tom Huddlestone is struggling with a groin problem, but has not been ruled out of the trip to the Madejski Stadium. Marcus Olsson and Ikechi Anya, however, have been ruled out of the game.

Lampard’s squad is strong otherwise and George Evans, Florian Jozefzoon, Jack Marriott, Mason Mount and Harry Wilson will all be eyeing debuts.

Probable Derby County XI

Formation: 4-3-3

Manager: Frank Lampard

Scott Carson (GK)

Scott Carson was excellent for Derby last season, establishing himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the Championship. Should start in goal.

Andre Wisdom (RB)

The versatile Wisdom, who can play in central defence as well as at right-back, could be an important player for Lampard this season.

Richard Keogh (CB)

Keogh has been a stalwart in defence for Derby since joining the club in 2012 and will have a major role to play in the upcoming season.

Curtis Davies (CB)

Strong and physically imposing, Davies could lead the Rams in the 2018/19 Championship campaign. He needs to have a strong campaign to give his club a chance to reach the playoffs.

Max Lowe (LB)

Lowe was arguably Derby’s standout player in the pre-season and if he can stay fit, it could be a great season for him.

Joe Ledley (CDM)

Joe Ledley looks set to start in the holding midfielder’s role against Reading. The Welsh international started the friendlies against both Wolves and Southampton.

Craig Bryson (RCM)

Bryson is a popular figure at Derby for his work rate and affiliation with the club. With the presence of a holding midfielder, Bryson has the license to push further up the pitch and contribute to the team’s attacks.

Mason Mount (LCM)

Signed on loan from Chelsea, Mount is one of the most eye-catching additions made in the Championship this season. He can cause damage to the opposition with his creativity and flair.

Tom Lawrence (RW)

Lawrence has proved himself in the Championship and is capable of terrorising defences with his pace, skill and unpredictability.

Wolves should sign Harry Wilson

Harry Wilson (LW)

Wilson hit 7 goals in 13 appearances at Championship level last season and if he continues to score regularly, he would become Lampard’s most dangerous asset.

David Nugent (ST)

Nugent has a proven track record of scoring goals in the Championship and despite his career drawing to a close, he could do a fantastic job at Pride Park this season.
