Predicted Bolton Lineup To Face Leeds United On The Opening Day

New boys Bolton Wanderers have had a chequered pre-season, at least results wise, but retain hope that their young squad can surprise a few people and get into the top half.

They’ll start off in a raucous atmosphere at home to Yorkshire rivals Leeds United and will possibly give the following players a go in a 4-4-2 formation, though the squad seems pretty adaptable as far as shape goes:

Formation: 4-4-2

Manager: Phil Parkinson

GK – Mark Howard

It could be a close call between Howard and Ben Alnwick but the free transfer from Sheffield United could probably get the call.

RB – Mark Little

A clever free signing from Bristol City, Little can hit the ground running here hopefully with a decent performance up and down the right-hand side.

CB – Reece Burke

The new man, signed on loan from West Ham, has worked with Phil Parkinson before and so may slot straight into the side.

CB – David Wheater

The former Boro man and England hopeful will provide expert assistance to the exciting Burke in what looks a fairly well-balanced defence.

David Wheater

LB – Andrew Taylor

Knows this league well, having played for near neighbours Wigan last season and should slot straight in.

RM – Will Buckley

The arrival from Sunderland should go straight into the XI and will probably line up here. Buckley knows the score in this division and can be a calming influence in a heated atmosphere.

CM – Josh Vela

Did really well in League One last season and more than deserves his place in this division. Vela is a talent and will form a solid partnership with Pratley.

CM – Darren Pratley

The experienced middle man will go about his business effectively, if unspectacularly, and be a crucial piece of Phil Parkinson’s jigsaw.

LW – Sammy Ameobi

The former Newcastle man had a successful loan spell here before and has now returned permanently. Sammy had some successful spells in the Premier League and so is a standout player in this line-up.

SS – Adam Armstrong

The wee man doesn’t necessarily need to be up front on his own, but does need to play up the middle. So the loan arrival from Newcastle should relish this position and may resume his improvement here.

ST – Adam Le Fondre

The striker has been prolific in the past and arrives here on a free transfer, a deal which could look like a terrific move in a few months time.
