Impressive Saiz – The Best And The Worst Rated Leeds United Players From The 2-1 Loss To Derby County

Full Time: Leeds United 1-2 Derby County

Leeds United succumbed to a third straight defeat at home, when they were beaten 2-1 by Derby County, at the Elland Road, on Tuesday night.

Coming on the back of losses to Reading and Sheffield United at home, Thomas Christiansen’s men were expected to turn things around against the Rams and things did look good when Pierre-Michel Lasogga put the Whites ahead just 7 minutes into the game. Sam Winnall brought the visitors back on level terms in the 72nd minute, finishing a Craig Forsyth cross and 8 minutes later, he delivered the knock-out punch for Leeds, tucking home a penalty.

The loss leaves Leeds at 6th place in the Championship table, with 23 points after 15 games. And here’s how the Whites’ stars performed on the night.

Leeds United Player Ratings

Andy Lonergan – 6/10

Conceded two goals, but wasn’t at fault for either of those. Was exposed by his defence.

Luke Ayling – 5/10

Was nowhere to be seen when Forsyth ran down the flank to tee up Winnall for the equaliser in the second period.

Pontus Jansson – 6/10

Returning to the side after two games, the Swede did his bit to keep the visitors away for large phases of the game, but didn’t track Winnall for the opener.

Matthew Pennington – 6/10

An improvement on his performance against Sheffield United, with a strong sliding tackle in the first period standing out. However, he too did not go along with Winnall for the Rams’ first goal.

Stuart Dallas – 6/10

Starting at the problematic left-back position, the Northern Irishman looked steady and solid, while also looking to get forward at times.

Eunan O’Kane – 6/10

Controlled things well in the middle of the park, but fell apart after the equalising goal in the second period.

Ronaldo Vieira – 6/10

Started the attack for Leeds’ goal by winning a tackle in the midfield, but couldn’t stem the visitors in the midfield, more so after the break.

Kemar Roofe – 5/10

There were a few positive moments in the first period, but drifted out of the game with time and was subbed off.

Samu Saiz – 7/10

As has been the norm, the Spaniard stood out once again, trying to make things happen in the attacking third. Got the assist for Lasogga’s goal.

Gjanni Alioski – 5/10

His recent struggles don’t seem like ending anytime soon. Had some lively moments, but was poor in an overall sense again.

Pierre-Michel Lasogga – 6/10

Put himself around in the attacking third, more than what he did over the weekend against Sheffield United. Took his goal really well, but faded with time.

Substitutes

Hadi Sacko – 5/10

Replaced Roofe with 15 minutes left to play. Tripped Tom Lawrence outside the box, but saw the referee award the penalty wrongly.

Jay-Ray Grot – N/A

Replaced Pennington in the 84th minute. No impact.

Pablo Hernandez – N/A

Thrown in for Alioski with six minutes left. Couldn’t rescue a point.
