Impressive Winks, world-class Kane – The best & worst Tottenham stars rated in their 2-1 win over PSV

Tottenham player ratings vs PSV – How did Spurs fare in the game?

Tottenham Hotspur kept their Champions League hopes alive with a comeback 2-1 win over Dutch opponents PSV at Wembley in a fascinating encounter. Harry Kane scored a brace to save the north London-based club from getting closer to an early elimination from the competition.

Luuk de Jong scored from a towering header to give the visitors a precious lead two minutes into the game. However, Spurs’ equalizer arrived in the 78th minute via their talisman. He then scored again 11 minutes later to send the home crowd at the national stadium into a frenzy.

Here’s how the Tottenham players fared in the game:

Tottenham player ratings

Paulo Gazzaniga (6.5)

Couldn’t do much to save the goal, made a very good save later on. Not convincing with the ball at feet.

Serge Aurier (5)

All those efforts to make forward runs and no end product at all.

Toby Alderweireld (6)

Mistimed a jump which led to PSV’s goal. His passing was awesome at times and made a good defensive block later on.

Davinson Sanchez (7)

Did what he had to do for the team. Went forward as an auxiliary forward in the second half.

Ben Davies (6.5)

Very ponderous with the ball in the first half. Things looked improved after the break for the Welshman. He saved his best cross for the 89th minute when Kane got at the end of it to bundle home the winner.

Harry Winks

Harry Winks (8)

A performance full of intent, purpose and energy. Not easy for a player to play as a lone defensive midfielder in the team, but Winks did very well.

Christian Eriksen (6)

The Dane switched on and off in the game, probably still finding the match sharpness.

Dele Alli (6)

Should have done better with one of his chances, possibly a bit rusty. The Englishman did try to make things happen.

Lucas Moura (7)

Was an ever-present danger to the PSV whenever he had the ball. Made a mazy run to go past three defenders and shoot at goal which was saved by the goalkeeper. He was replaced after the hour mark and the fans weren’t too pleased with that decision from the manager.

Heung-Min Son (5)

Struggled to create anything of substance in the first half. Got better after the break but it was not to be for the Korean on the night.

Harry Kane

Harry Kane (8)

Scored the two goals to set up a much-needed victory for his team. He probably could have done better with the other chances earlier in the game.

SUBS

Erik Lamela (Sub on after 62 mins) (6)

Came on to try and add extra impetus to the attacking buildups of the team.

Fernando Llorente (Sub on after 75 mins) (7)

Came to ruffle few PSV feathers with physicality. The Spaniard did just that by winning an aerial duel and flicking a header towards Kane for the equalising goal.

Kieran Trippier (Sub on after 75 mins) (5)

Replaced an ordinary Aurier but he didn’t have much of the ball.
