Influencial Modric – The Best And The Worst Rated Real Madrid Players vs Barcelona

After Sergio Ramos salvaged a point for Real Madrid late on in the Clasico, we run through five talking points from the Nou Camp

33 games across all competitions and Real Madrid are yet to see a defeat. Not even when one looked so likely at the Camp Nou against Barcelona in Saturday’s El Clasico. Up until the 90th minute.

The usual suspect, Sergio Ramos, snatched an equaliser at the death to help prevent Real Madrid’s 3rd loss in 2016.

Suarez’s 53rd-minute header seemed to have been enough to hand Barcelona all 3 points, but Los Blancos hung on until the very end to snatch a draw despite being 2nd best all day.

Below are the ratings for Zidane’s charges.

Navas

The hosts could only record 2 shots on target, but Suarez’s free header was enough to beat the Costa Rican.

Quickly came off his line to prevent the Uruguayan from adding a 2nd.

Rating : 8/10

Carvajal

Wasn’t his best performance and got well beaten by Neymar in a buildup to what was a squandered effort, but still was decent reducing the threat of the Brazilian.

Rating : 7/10

Varane

Could have done better to close down Suarez for the opening goal. Came close to scoring the opener himself in the 1st half, rising highest only to head straight down at Stegen.

Brilliant display at the back, though.

Rating : 7/10

Ramos

Sergio Ramos scored a late equaliser for Real Madrid at the Nou Camp

Saved Real Madrid in the same way and in similar circumstances for the umpteenth time.

Had to make some great tackles at the back too.

Rating : 9/10

Marcelo

Was more of a left forward than a left back and was the one who won the free kick for the last-gasp equaliser.

Did well in marking Messi and Neymar in the first half, but had a much more quiet second.

Rating : 7/10

Kovacic

Yet another impressive effort from the young Croatian who might have earned himself a permanent berth due to his excellent box-to-box midfield abilities.

Did well in his and Barcelona’s half, and is definitely worth every penny spent on his recruitment.

Rating : 8/10

Modric

Luka Modric (right) impressed on Saturday; Andre Gomes (left) failed to...

Delivered the perfect of freekicks tailor-made for Ramos’ head despite a much quiet 2nd half.

Played in front of the back 4 and was very influential in the 1st half to give Barcelona a hard time.

Rating : 8/10

Isco

Looked out of sorts after 2 fine moves and was pedestrian for much of the remaining minutes he spent on the pitch.

Got rightly bundled off for Casemiro on the 65th minute.

Rating : 5/10

Vazquez

Deputised well in the absence of Bale and could have earned Real Madrid a penalty early into the start of the game.

Did a lot of defending and was always a threat anytime he came near the edge of Barcelona’s box.

Rating : 7/10

Benzema

Couldn’t exert any sort of influence on the game as he came up against a resolute Barcelona defence no matter where he went.

Rating : 6/10

Ronaldo

Lionel Messi faces Cristiano Ronaldo and Marcelo during the La Liga match

Wasn’t the usual great performance expected of him, but he did force Stegen into some saves, got hacked down by Mascherano and pulled a hamstring he shook off.

Rating : 7/10

SUBSTITUTES

Casemiro

Came off the bench to add steel to Madrid’s midfield.

Rating : 7/10

Asensio

Didn’t do much in his 15 minutes on the pitch but held on to the ball well.

Rating : Unavailable

Mariano Díaz

Had very little time to have a real taste of the Clasico action.
