Is It Wise For Demba Ba To Leave Chelsea If A New Striker Comes In?

JOe Hart's tackle or Demba Ba's dive?

Chelsea never really replaced Drogba with a perfect hier and when they could not get the desired results from Torres, the Blues decided to move for Newcastle striker Demba Ba and acquired him for a fee as nominal as £7m. But the player, who was such a prolific striker for Newcastle, did not prove his worth at Chelsea and in 14 league appearances could only score two goals for the club.

Now this season, soon after Mourinho was made the manager of the London club, he has enquired about Lewandowski and has Cavani among his targets. Thus, if such a striker joins Chelsea, Ba could be on his way out of the club or at-least will have to spend more time warming the benches.

When we look at the statistics of Ba, we find a striking dissimilarity. Ba, who scored 29 goals in 54 appearances for Newcastle, did nothing to improve on his reputation at Chelsea. But then this happens to many players who has spent their entire career in mid level. Ba was also unable to cope up with the expectations for such a huge club and the constant media and fan pressure got the better out of him. But one can never doubt on his capabilities and it is an established fact that Ba is one of the most composed finisher with an excellent eye for goal.

Therefore, to regain his stature, it would be wise for him to move to a different club and even to a separate league. Borussia Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp would be looking for a replacement after Lewandowski has made it clear that he would be leaving the club in the summer with interests pouring in from the top clubs. He should consider Ba as one of the candidates as the Senegalese forward is still a top class striker and would not command as much a fee as some of the other players. Also for Ba, this would be a good move as he would be able to play for one of the top sides of the world minus the extreme media attention. One of the other options may be West Brom, who would have to part ways with Lukaku as the player would be returning to Chelsea after his one year loan spell.

However, Ba has stressed that he has no intention to leave the Blues and would continue to fight for his place in the team. In this context, his agent recently stated “Demba is very happy with Chelsea… he’s happy and flattered to work with a coach like Mourinho.”
