Inaki Williams – Is He The Man To Replace Sturridge At Liverpool?

Jurgen Klopp has some serious plans for this Liverpool squad this summer and is looking at some of the brightest stars in Europe to add to his options at Anfield next season. Though recent reports suggest that the German manager might give star striker Daniel Sturridge another year at the club, a number of English news outfits also claim that he is looking at Athletic Bilbao’s Inaki Williams as a possible replacement this summer.

A number of bookies have now slashed the odds on the La Liga star joining Anfield next season. Though his €50m release clause could be on the high side, he is touted as a possible long-term replacement for Daniel Sturridge at the club. So, is Williams the man to help Liverpool improve next season?

For those who are not aware of the player – the Spanish international is a versatile star, who is adept at playing on the wing or as a lone striker. At just 22, Williams is a raw talent who has potential in abundance. He is quick across the turf but is a strong lad who loves to put himself about in the final third. He is strong in the air – something that will help Liverpool and his finishing is impressive as well.

Liverpool are the top goal scorers in the Premier League this season but they have had their issues against sides that have sat back and defended. The lack of a genuine target man is what has caused these problems, and the Bilbao man can solve this to a certain extent. However, he is nowhere near a productive option in front of goal like a fully fit Daniel Sturridge.

Williams has 7 goals and 8 assists in 43 appearances in all competitions this season while Sturridge has 6 goals and 3 assists in just 23 appearances, with most of them coming from the bench. The Liverpool man is one of the most prolific goal scorers in the Premier League, as he showed in the Europa league final last season. But the fact that Liverpool fans have to look back to almost 12-years to remember his contribution, is the problem with the striker.

Sturridge has not been able to keep himself fit, while Inaki has barely missed a week in training. The Spanish star, who has already made a senior appearance for the national side, is an exciting youngster with a zeal to learn and playing under a manager like Jurgen Klopp can turn him into one of the best.

He is not a like to like replacement for Sturridge at Liverpool, but he gives the Reds a different approach to the attack and that could be more valuable than what the 27-year old English star has provided this season.

Do you think Inaki Williams is a possible replacement for Daniel Sturridge at Anfield?
