From over 100 goals scored in the league to just about half of that, the impact of losing a player like Luis Suarez finally hit Liverpool hard last season as they struggled to get any attacking rhythm going at all. The likes of Balotelli, Borini and Lambert failed miserably to score goals and Daniel Sturridge didn’t have the greatest of times with his fitness issues, the last season should be completely forgotten by the Liverpool management but lessons need to be learnt.
Liverpool need to sign a striker who can link up with the creativity from midfield and cause a worry to the defenders by being a nuisance to them. A while back, Liverpool were linked with a move for Diego Costa who ended up at Chelsea. A strike force of Luis Suarez and Diego Costa would have been incredible; talented, determined and problematic to deal with however they will possibly have a strike force of Borini and Ings next season, no disrespect meant to the latter pair.
Fortunately for the Reds, they could be on the verge of signing Carlos Tevez from Juventus; the Old Lady from Turin did sign Dybala from Palermo which could end Tevez’s time at the club. The 31-year-old would be a great option for any club in the world, age hasn’t been a limiting factor for the fighting Argentine and Liverpool could do with some bite (a metaphorical one) in their attack.
The Apache for Liverpool
While Tevez has played for Manchester United and Manchester City, he wouldn’t mind moving to Liverpool, he has already felt the ire of most Manchester United fans and he could go the whole hog and be completely hated by them if he does sign for the Reds.
Tevez doesn’t have the same goal scoring record that Luis Suarez currently holds but he does have the same passion and commitment that the Uruguayan had shown for Liverpool and has shown for Barcelona this season. That was one of the things missing from Liverpool’s attack last season, the will to run, the will to create something, the will to put defences under pressure.
A couple of years ago, Suarez was the catalyst for most of the team’s attacks, in fact the high pressing and pace of Suarez, Sturridge and Sterling would cause opposition defences a lot of problems and we often saw either of Suarez or Sterling track back into midfield, pick up the ball and drive straight into the defences to create chances for the team.
Tevez is something similar, he has the passion and aggression to help any team out and that is something which could work really well for Liverpool this season. He has the experience of playing in the Premier League and can help other strikers better by mentoring them. Tevez also has been one of the top scorers in the Serie A ever since he moved there and while he might not have the pace that Suarez possesses, the South American grit and determination that is prevalent in most footballers from the region could be just the thing Liverpool need to kick start this season.
