Is This €15m Fringe Player With 91 Caps The Perfect Replacement For Coutinho At Liverpool?

Philippe Coutinho

Why Real Madrid’s Lucas Vazquez Could Be The Man to Replace Coutinho At Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp’s men failed to take more than a point from their first game of the season, against Watford as they shipped in three goals at the Vicarage Road. The defence remains an issue for the Reds who will have to work really hard to improve if they do not add a player to their backline.

But that is not the only problem Liverpool have at the moment. The Reds are on the verge of losing their star player in Philippe Coutinho this summer. The Brazil international is a top transfer target for Catalan giants Barcelona, who want him to replace Neymar Jr at the club.

The English outfit are determined not to sell the player at any price but Coutinho has decided to force his hand and has handed in a transfer request, which might see Liverpool offload him for a big chunk of money. They will have to find a replacement for him quickly, especially as the window has less than three weeks left.

They are looking at some quality players to replace the magical Brazilian and one name thrown into the mix is Lucas Vazquez. A product of the academy at the Bernabeu, the €15m rated winger is one of the most exciting stars in the domestic arena in Europe. He took time to break into the first team at the Spanish capital and only made his senior debut in 2015 under Zinedine Zidane, a whole eight years after he first joined the club.

However, he is now one of the first choice players to come off the bench for Madrid and scored 2 goals plus 9 further assists in La Liga last season. At 26, Vazquez has 91 La Liga appearances, 16 Champions League appearances and three international appearances (for Spain) and is an exciting star in the making.

At his age, he will hit his peak in a year or two and could be a huge asset for Liverpool. A right winger by trait, the Spanish star is a gifted athlete with some impeccable technique with the ball at his feet.

He can dribble past opponents and put in productive and dangerous crosses while he is also adept at holding up the play when needed. He is someone who would do the dirty work at the back and is an effective set-piece taker as well – all attributes that usually attract Jurgen Klopp.

Coutinho is a star player and was the talisman for Liverpool last season. But he is hardly a player who is impossible to replace. But if the 26-year old Spaniard is the right man still remains to be seen. The possibilities are good though.
