Leeds United Opinion – Why Leeds should re-ignite their interest in Lewis Macleod
Since the turn of the year, things haven’t gone Leeds United’s way, especially the way the performance levels has gone down. As a result, from being top of the table, they are currently third in the table, five points behind leaders Norwich City.
While Premier League promotion is still a rave possibility, Marcelo Bielsa’s men must improve upon the consistency of their displays in order to get over the line.
With this season about to end in a month’s time, the focus on squad improvement for the upcoming campaign should be on the agenda. That being said, Leeds were linked with a move for Brentford’s Lewis Macleod in the January transfer window, but couldn’t get the deal done.
Here’s why the Whites must revisit that interest and sign the attacking midfielder in the summer:
Midfield depth is a necessity for Leeds
Since the departure of Samuel Saiz in January, Leeds have struggled to replace his guile and passing abilities in midfield. Pablo Hernandez and Tyler Roberts have taken turns to play along side Mateusz Klich in attacking midfield, with Kalvin Phillips playing the deeper midfield role.
While Hernandez is a winger who is better off hugging the touchline, Roberts hasn’t done enough most times to really convince the faithful around.
Hence, it is imperative from Leeds’ viewpoint that they sign a new central cum attacking midfielder in the summer. Having already scouted and seen Lewis Macleod before, it would be a good idea to go back to that route and the sign Scotsman in the summer.
The 24-year-old is a quality ball-playing midfielder who can just link the play up between defence and attack. He can provide those key passes and dribble past opposition players in tight areas to create an opening.
