Jacobs And Power To Start – Projected 4-3-3 Wigan Line-Up To Face Barnsley

Wigan Athletic

Predicted Wigan Lineup To Face Barnsley

Wigan managed to end a run of 4 games without a win last time as they beat the league’s bottom side Rotherham 3-2 at the DW Stadium.

Tougher is to come this time, with Barnsley sitting 13th and 19 points above the home side. However, the recent losses of Sam Winnall, Conor Hourihane, and Alfie Mawson have hit the South Yorkshire side hard and so Wigan may feel they can gain back-to-back wins in the league for the first time since January.

Expected Starting Lineup:

Manager: Graham Barrow

Formation: 4-3-3

GK – Jakob Haugaard

The former Denmark under-20 international is improving nicely since his loan move from Stoke City and should start the game.

RB – Jamie Hanson

Equally as effective in midfield, the on-loan Derby player can look to add to his single goal this season with an attacking display from right-back.

CB – Craig Morgan

The Welshman should start his 18th game of the season at centre-back. He will look to put in a good performance and ensure his side wins the game.

CB – Dan Burn

When at Fulham, Burn really looked to be hitting the heights. Things have taken a downturn for him in the last couple of years but he retains lots of quality and can help keep Barnsley’s strikers quiet.

LB – Stephen Warnock

Having played at the highest level regularly, skipper Warnock often appears head and shoulders above his team mates in terms of quality. Another fine performance is expected from him at left-back.

CM – Alex Gilbey

Since arriving from Colchester for free last summer, Gilbey has managed 2 goals and 2 assists in 15 Championship games from central midfield positions and fully deserves his place in the side.

CM – Shaun MacDonald

The 28-year-old from Swansea is a regular in the side and would have been a big miss were he to be unavailable for this one.

CM – Max Power

No goals for the former Tranmere man, but his 7 assists from midfield show his worth and he can play again.  Averaging 85 minutes over his 38 league games is a testament to his fitness and commitment.

RW – Michael Jacobs

3 goals and 3 assists in the league this season for Jacobs, who can operate on either flank. He will start on the right-hand side in this game.

LW – Ryan Colclough

Another one who can play right across the front three, Colclough netted 5 times in League One this season while on loan at MK Dons and carries the hopes of his manager on his shoulders.

ST – Gabriel Obertan

The former Manchester United and Newcastle man has enjoyed his time up front and may be asked to prove to be Wigan’s key goal scoring threat once more. The Frenchman has plenty of Premier League experience and can do a job here for the home side.
