Jan Oblak would be the perfect replacement for David de Gea
The Sun reports that David de Gea hasn’t signed a new £350,000-a-week deal offered by Manchester United.
The Spaniard has been one of the best keepers in the Premier League in recent years but has struggled for form over the past 18 months or so.
The 28-year-old could leave for free at the end of the season, and the report claims that a move in January cannot be ruled out. Jan Oblak is one player who is being scouted by the United officials (h/t Sun), and the Slovenian would be the perfect player to replace De Gea.
The best keeper in La Liga
The 26-year-old might play for a more defensive
The Slovenian had the best save percentage for a keeper in the top five leagues recently.
The Atletico Madrid star also has another stat proving just how great he has been for the Spanish side since joining them.
The Slovenian has won the Zamora Trophy (best goals to games ratio) in La Liga for four consecutive years and has helped Atletico Madrid to several titles.
He has also been named as the best goalkeeper in the competition for four successive years and seems to be improving with more games under his belt.
The 26-year-old is a couple of years younger than De Gea and should continue improving into his 30s.
The Slovenian might not be a cheap signing given Atletico’s current stature, but United need to bring a world-class star to replace someone of the calibre of De Gea.

It is difficult to name another goalkeeper from a foreign league who could do a stellar job between the sticks other than Oblak.
Verdict
United have some problems to deal with during this rebuild under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, but the goalkeeping department isn’t an area of concern at the moment.
De Gea is still a fantastic keeper despite his dip in form, but if they have to replace him, the Red Devils won’t find a better option than Oblak.
