Predicted Liverpool line-up to face Chelsea in the League Cup
Liverpool look rampant under Jurgen Klopp this season after picking up another resounding 3-0 victory against Southampton this weekend. The Reds have now conceded the least number of goals and are on top of the table after Chelsea’s stalemate with West Ham United.
The Reds return this midweek to face Maurizio Sarri’s men in the League Cup. Chelsea are also unbeaten this season, winning all but one game so far. It will certainly prove to be an exciting clash as two English giants face each other in the Premier League as well this weekend.
Team News
Apart from long-term absentees, Klopp has no real injury concerns to worry about. Dejan Lovren is back in training but isn’t fit to start this game. Changes are definitely expected to be made given that Liverpool face a double-header against Chelsea this week.
Probable Liverpool XI
Manager: Jurgen Klopp
Formation: 4-3-3
Alisson Becker (GK)
Given that the game is against Chelsea, Klopp could opt to keep Alisson in goal. The Brazilian is yet to be really tested this season and this just might be the game where he could be handed a difficult time.
Trent Alexander-Arnold (RB)
Alexander-Arnold showed last season that he is more than capable of playing multiple games in a week. He should start this game as well.
Joe Gomez (CB)
Gomez was rested for the game against Southampton but had to be brought on due to an injury to Virgil Van Dijk. The youngster should start in place of the Dutchman.
Joel Matip (CB)
With both Van Dijk and Dejan Lovren out for this game, the Cameroonian will continue at the back for Liverpool.
Alberto Moreno (LB)
There’s no denying that Andrew Robertson deserves a rest and Klopp would be wise to bench him before the weekend clash. This should see Alberto Moreno start at left-back.
Naby Keita (LCM)
Keita was rested against the Saints and will definitely play a role in this game. However, the Guinean could be withdrawn early as the Reds face Chelsea once again later in the week.
James Milner (RCM)
Surely, Milner will not have any trouble playing both the games against the Blues. The former Manchester City man has been the perfect utility player for Klopp.
Georginio Wijnaldum (CM)
The Dutchman impressed after being shifted to a No.6 role this season. He will deputise in place of Jordan Henderson for this one.
Dominic Solanke (RW)
Salah should be handed a rest as he has looked slightly off the pace in the last few weeks. This could be a good chance for Solanke to make use of.
Daniel Sturridge (ST)
Sturridge scored against PSG. He should lead the line against his former employers as Firmino could be handed a rest.
Sadio Mane (RW)
Mane was quiet against his former club this past weekend but the Senegalese international is capable of running riot against the Blues.
