Ronaldo, Messi And Suarez Feature – La Liga Team Of The Season Including A Host Of Real Madrid And Barcelona Stars

Ronaldo? Messi? Here Are The Players Who Make It To The La Liga Team Of The Season 2016/17

The Spanish domestic season was decided on the final night as Zinedine Zidane’s Real Madrid needed just a point from their trip to Malaga as Barcelona hosted Eibar in the decider. The Los Blancos managed to pick an easy 2-0 victory and went on to lift the title, ending Barcelona’s chances of taking home 3 successive league titles, as they only managed to finish 2nd in the table.

They are followed by Atletico Madrid, Sevilla, and Villarreal in the next three places. Sporting Gijon, Osasuna, and Granda could not avoid the fall but there were a number of individual performances that sparked the league throughout the campaign. With the season done and dusted, here is the La Liga team of the year for the 2016-17 season:

La Liga Team Of The Season

Sergio Asenjo (Villarreal)

With top clubs in the league suffering with their first choice keepers, Asenjo, who has been terrific for Villarreal, beats Jan Oblak to this place.

Mario Gaspar (Villarreal)

Another Villarreal star who has been sensational this season is Mario Gaspar. Standing as a part of the best defence in the top flight, he has been effective at both ends of the field.

Gerard Pique (Barcelona)

The Spanish defender has been impeccable at the back for Barcelona and was crucial in taking the league to the final week.

Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid)

The Real Madrid skipper has had yet another terrific season and has helped his side to the league title for the first time in 5 years.

Marcelo (Real Madrid)

The best left-back in the world at the moment, Marcelo is an automatic choice for this position in this La Liga team of the season.

Marcelo

Steven N’Zonzi (Sevilla)

The former Premier League star N’Zonzi has improved immensely in the last year and a half and has been the best player in the league in this deep midfield role.

Toni Kroos (Real Madrid)

The German midfielder has been instrumental in laying a strong foundation on which Real Madrid managed to lift the La Liga title.

Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid)

Who else other than the Portuguese legend. He has been phenomenal as usual but it is worth noting that it is not even his best of seasons. Yet, he’s won them the league and has fired them into the Champions League final. How about that?

Kevin-Prince Boateng (Las Palmas)

A surprise in this list is Las Palmas star Boateng, who has been one of the most consistent wingers in Spain. He helped Las Palmas to safety and was their best player this season, and hence finds a place in this lineup.

Lionel Messi (Barcelona)

The Argentine star scored the last league goal for Barcelona’s campaign, picking up 37 league goals this season, more than any other player. What an effort that was from the little man. Was unfortunate to miss out on winning the title.

Luis Suarez (Barcelona)

The Uruguayan striker is currently one of the best in Europe and with 29 league goals to his name, he has been the most effective forward in the La Liga.
