Gerrard to make 3 changes – Strongest 4-4-2 Rangers XI to face FC Ufa in the Europa League

Predicted Rangers line-up to face FC Ufa in the Europa League playoffs

Rangers switch their attention from the Premiership to their European adventure as they face FC Ufa in the second leg of the Europa League play-off on Thursday.

The Gers were left royally disappointed after conceding a stoppage-time equaliser at Motherwell in the 3-3 draw on Sunday. However, Steven Gerrard’s men will be buoyant against FC Ufa after they put one foot in the Europa League group stage following a 1-0 victory at Ibrox in their play-off first leg last week.

Team News

Jamie Murphy has damaged his knee ligaments and has been ruled out for the rest of the season.

Lassana Coulibaly has returned to training and could be involved against FC Ufa, while Jordan Rossiter and Graham Dorrans remain sidelined.

Probable Rangers XI

Formation: 4-4-2

Manager: Steven Gerrard

Allan McGregor (GK)

McGregor is Rangers’ undisputed No.1 and should start the game on Thursday.

James Tavernier (RB)

Tavernier has been excellent for Rangers this season but produced one of the poorest defensive performances against Motherwell. However, he will look to put in an improved performance to help the Gers progress.

Connor Goldson (CB)

Goldson endured a tough time at Motherwell at the weekend. He would be desperate to redeem himself against FC Ufa.

Nikola Katic (CB)

While Rangers’ defence fell apart at the weekend, Katic stood strong and once again delivered a good display. He is proving to be a major coup for Gerrard.

Jon Flanagan (LB)

Borna Barisic is cup-tied and cannot take part against FC Ufa, meaning Flanagan will be stationed at left-back.

Scott Arfield (RW)

Arfield has been deployed in central midfield by Gerrard but could find his place at right-wing on Thursday. He has to be at the top of his game if Rangers are to have a safe passage in the Europa League group stages.

Ryan Jack

Ryan Jack (CM)

Jack’s presence in the midfield will be very important as he is the one who shields the Rangers backline to provide a base for the attackers to express themselves freely.

Ovie Ejaria (CM)

Ejaria was excellent against Motherwell and he will look to impress his manager again in the midweek European clash.

Ryan Kent (LW)

Kent needs to improve his end product significantly but due to his pace and footwork, he can cause problems to the FC Ufa defence on Thursday.

Alfredo Morelos

Alfredo Morelos (RS)

Morelos is developing with every passing game and he will look to get on the score sheet in Russia.

Kyle Lafferty (LS)

Lafferty was excellent at Motherwell in the first start of his Rangers return, and it was his overall display that apparently caught the attention. The giant centre-forward looks like he will be a real asset to Gerrard’s side.
