Predicted Bristol City Line-up To Face Manchester City In The Carabao Cup
Bristol City should have all their big hitters available for the League Cup semi-final clash against an all-conquering Manchester City this week, looking to add Pep Guardiola’s side to their list of casualties after they got the better of Manchester United, whom they beat in the last round.
Joe Bryan may once again play on the left of the midfield where his class can show, while big centre-back Aden Flint will be a huge danger at set-pieces.
Frank Fielding may miss out again with Luke Steele playing in a 4-4-1-1 formation featuring the following familiar personnel:
Probable Bristol XI
GK – Luke Steele
Another chance for the 33-year-old ex-Barnsley ‘keeper to impress, though he’ll need to be at his very, very best against Aguero and co.
RB – Bailey Wright
The Aussie is having a good season, like most of his teammates, and will provide excellent support for Brownhill down the right.
CB – Aden Flint
The big man provides not just expert defensive cover but also an attacking prowess from corners and free-kicks.
CB – Nathan Baker
Two League Cup games and 1 goal already this season for Baker, another start is expected here.
LB – Hordur Magnusson
A 17th appearance of the season is on the cards for Magnusson, who is improving nicely at Ashton Gate.
RW – Josh Brownhill
The former Preston man has quietly gone about his business in this team during the campaign, with he and Wright being a solid partnership down the right-hand side.
CM – Marlon Pack
The EFL trophy winner can start once more in the middle of the park and will be a big influence on whether or not Bristol City can stem the tide.
CM – Korey Smith
A crucial partner of Pack and another key ingredient in what is a good looking side at Ashton Gate.
LW – Joe Bryan
The standout player in this side; Bryan started and brilliantly finished a wonderful move for the first goal against Man United in the last round and a repeat of that sort of skill could make a huge difference to the outcome of this tie.
SS – Jamie Paterson
Can fill the gap nicely between midfield and attack if he remains ambitious and doesn’t think too much about defending against this Man City side.
ST – Bobby Reid
While Joe Bryan is the main man in this side in terms of overall ability, it’s Reid’s goals which are carrying Bristol City to new heights in the championship so another one from the frontman here would be very much appreciated.
