Leeds’ attack would receive a much-needed boost if they land this 27-year-old Bundesliga ace this month

Why Leeds United should sign Steven Zuber this month

According to a report in German outlet BILD, Championship leaders Leeds United are interested in signing Hoffenheim winger Steven Zuber. The player has struggled for regular game time on the pitch for the German side, having started just six Bundesliga games this season.

The Swiss winger has 18 months left on his contract and on what we have seen thus far, it is not likely that there will be contract extension offered by the Bundesliga side. This conclusion comes from the fact that the club are willing to cash in on the 27-year-old in the January transfer window. (BILD)

Here’s why Leeds should do everything to get the player over the line at Elland Road this month:

Zuber will add quality and depth to the squad

Having won seven in a row, Leeds United have been held the back in the last two games, where they lost both. They are still on top of the league but the gap is trimmed to two points and slip-ups in the future would mean a slip in the league position.

This slight dip in form is a by-product of lack of squad depth Marcelo Bielsa has to work with. Injuries have hampered the season of many players, but in truth, the squad needs more assets in the window to sustain a long season in the Championship.

As of now, the Peacocks lack depth in the attack. Getting Zuber would be ideal for them. Predominantly a left winger, the Swiss international can play on either wing or as a wide attacking midfielder. He is a prodigious player with immense talent at his disposal.

The 27-year-old is a physically strong player and that enables him to hold onto the ball in tightly marked situations. He can not only make runs forward, dribble past people and create goal-scoring opportunities, but can also track back when required to help his defence without possession.

All in all, the Hoffenheim winger is a proper asset who will give his 100% every time he steps on to the field.

Obviously, there will be concerns regarding the move, as Leeds are currently in the second tier of English football. However, the attraction of Marcelo Bielsa and the fact that the Peacocks are one of the favourites to qualify for Premier League football at the end of this season should be enough to lure the player.
