Leeds completing a move for this promising 23-year-old Championship star would be a win-win for all parties

Leeds United opinion: The Whites should make a move for John Swift

The Hull Daily Live has reported that Leeds United are very keen on making a move for Reading star John Swift. Currently contracted to Reading, the 23 year old has been in decent form for the club, playing a big role in helping Reading survive.

At the moment, the club are a mere two points off the relegation zone, although they are climbing. They’ve managed to gain points from three of their last five games and even went on an unbeaten four-game run in February to help secure their place in the second-tier.

But despite all that, Reading could still go down, especially if they lose any more games before the end of the season. With five games left, things could get complicated.

And to make matters even worse, it seems that Leeds United are extremely interested in making a move for star John Swift.

The 23-year-old joined the club in the summer of 2016 from Chelsea’s U-23 squad and has since gone on to make a phenomenal impact. A versatile midfielder, Swift is a very effective box-to-box midfielder.

Thanks to his athleticism and close control, the 23-year-old is versatile enough to play urther forward or out wide if necessary. But it’s in the center of the field that Swift does his best work, utilizing his physicality and creativity to great use.

It’s a skill that Leeds United have missed over the last few years, but something that has come in spades this season. Both Mateusz Klich and Pablo Hernandez have been creative geniuses for Marcelo Bielsa’s side, creating 19 goals and scoring 20 between themselves.

It’s a stunning statistic for any player in the world, but things will change next season. Hernandez is 34 years old and will struggle to cope up with the high octane style of football that the Champioship and Premier League demands.

This would effectively leave Klich as their main creator and that could hurt his performances next season.

Adding a buffer to help with the transition would be very useful and that’s where John Swift steps in. As mentioned above, the 23-year-old is versatile enough to play all across the midfield.

Conclusion

Leeds United need reinforcements over the summer, especially if they make it to the Premier League, which is something that looks very likely. However, spending money on the wrong players make no sense whatsoever.

At his best, Swift has the potential to be a bargain and at his worst, a rotation option for Leeds United.
