Leeds signing this 26-year-old La Liga star would be an outstanding move by Marcelo Bielsa

Leeds United opinion – Whites in for Ruben Pardo – good move?

According to a report in Birmingham Live (h/t El Gol Digital), Championship hopefuls Leeds United are interested in signing Real Sociedad midfielder Ruben Pardo in the summer transfer window.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side are very close to getting automatic promotion to the Premier League this summer.

To plan for the future, they are eyeing Pardo from Sociedad. The 26-year-old is a quality midfielder who has been a regular feature for the La Liga side since coming through their youth ranks in 2011 (h/t Birmingham Mail).

However, he hasn’t been an automatic starter in the past 12 months. With just 18 league appearances this season (almost half of them from the bench), it is getting clear that Sociedad would part ways with the player (h/t Birmingham Mail).

The midfielder’s contract runs down at the end of this season. Hence, if he is not sold this summer, he could leave for free thereafter, subject to the La Liga side not offering an extension.

Here’s why Leeds United should take this chance and sign Ruben Pardo in the upcoming transfer window:

Leeds need a quality central midfielder

Predominantly a central midfielder, Pardo can also operate in attacking midfield or as a defensive shield in front of the back line. He is a quality passer of the ball and possesses a good game-reading mind.

Moreover, the Spain U21 international does not shy away from taking risks on the ball (dribbling in tight areas), pick out key passes and have a shot at goal if the opportunity arises.

He isn’t bad when it comes to making crucial interceptions to break the opposition build-up either. All in all, the 26-year-old is a prodigious asset who could be a welcome addition to Leeds United.

Marcelo Bielsa’s men, on the other hand, require a central midfielder who can create chances and also help the team when not in possession. Since the departure of Samuel Saiz, they have struggled to find a consistent partner for Mateusz Klich in central/attacking midfield. Pardo could be that man.

With Kalvin Phillips behind shielding the defence and a hard-working Klich alongside, the Sociedad man can play his natural game of creating chances in the final third and also help the forward men in pressing from the front.

Conclusion

Every aspect points towards a conclusion that Leeds would really get better with Ruben Pardo in their team. They have to get promoted to the Premier League and then make a move for the Spaniard in the summer.
