Leeds United opinion: Should the Whites make a move for Jese Rodriguez?
While they may not have made it back to the Premier League, Leeds United still put up a rather incredible fight. The Whites eventually fell short with Derby County outdoing them. However, the Rams also did not make for it, with Aston Villa thoroughly beating them in the promotion playoff final.
A sensational game ended with the Lions getting the last laugh as they became the last side to enter the Premier League. There is always next season for Leeds United but the biggest problem will be whether or not Marcelo Bielsa is there.
The former Argentina head coach has done well with the club but failed to get them back into the Premier League.
That has hurt his reputation more than anything, as the Whites held top spot for the longest time. A few defeats and draws saw Norwich City take it from them and the Canaries made it theirs.
They refused to let go and held on to the top spot until the very end. Things for Leeds United got even worse, with them slipping all the way down into third place, allowing Sheffield United to leapfrog over them.
That further added to Bielsa’s pressure and the loss to Derby County in the promotion playoff semi-final might prove to be the nail in the coffin.
Things need to change but at the same time it doesn’t have to be wholesale changes. A few additions here and there will help change their fortunes next season, which is why Jese Rodriguez makes a lot of sense.
English news outlet Wales Online has reported that Leeds United are keen on a move for the PSG man. Currently at Real Betis, Rodriguez has struggled to make an impact with his loan spell at Stoke City really affecting his confidence.
But with his future at PSG clear, it does leave the door open to any club. And Leeds United are keen, which does make the move a rather shocking one. The former Real Madrid man has struggled off late.
He finished this season with just two goals to his name, scored just one last season and just one in his loan season for PSG. It’s been a rather incredible drop since his move from Real Madrid but for Leeds United, the move makes a lot of sense.
Despite his struggles, Rodriguez has proven to be a hard-worker and a talented attacker. That’s something the Whites need in their locker, especially with Pablo Hernandez on the wrong side of 30.
Combine that with Jack Harrison returning to Manchester City; Stuart Dallas and Ezgjan Alioski’s change in positions and it leaves the club lacking depth. But that’s where someone like Jese Rodriguez can walk in and change things, adding the quality that the Whites lacked.

Leeds United need to start thinking like a Premier League side and someone like Jese Rodriguez is just who they need. The 25-year-old could do with a move to the Championship to change his fortunes unless he wants to see his career continue downhill.
