Leeds United star willing to sit out this season in hopes of securing an exit

Leeds United news: Phillips willing to wait to leave the club

The Sun reports that Kalvin Phillips is willing to sit out the upcoming season at Leeds United to get a move away.

The 23-year-old has been offered a new deal by the Championship side but has also seen Aston Villa bid £15million for his services (h/t Sun).

The report claims that Villa are not willing to bid higher than £15m for Phillips but have already signed 10 new players ahead of their Premier League campaign.

The 23-year-old is one of the brightest talents in the Championship and Leeds have already sold Jack Clarke to Tottenham in the summer.

Marcelo Bielsa does have the talent of Clarke to call upon in the upcoming campaign as the 18-year-old has returned to Elland Road on a season-long loan.

Phillips will enter the final year of his contract

The report adds that Phillips is open to sitting out this season even if he earns less money staying with the club.

The midfielder is not interested in the new deal from Leeds and will enter the final year of his contract at the end of next season and then figure out his future (h/t Sun).

Leeds have been busy in the summer, landing Helder Costa and Ben White on loan from Premier League clubs, but losing Phillips could be a huge blow given his potential.

The Whites have been in great form during pre-season apart from a loss to Manchester United, and you can check out the odds of them winning games with a bookmaker such as Unibet.

Leeds were one of the favourites to gain promotion to the Premier League last season, and it will be interesting to see how they set themselves up should they lose a star like Phillips in the summer.
