Leicester City opinion: Should the Foxes sign Ismaila Sarr?
According to a report from the Daily Mail, Leicester City have joined the race to sign Stade Rennais’ star winger Ismaila Sarr in the summer. The Foxes will join fellow Premier League side Arsenal in Sarr’s pursuit, who according to the report is rated at £25million.
Leicester’s biggest issue this season has been with the end product from their wide players. Demarai Gray and Rachid Ghezzal have had hugely underwhelming seasons for the Foxes and Brendan Rodgers has to address that issue in the summer.
Leicester’s interest in a player as highly rated as Sarr comes in as a bit of a surprise especially with a bigger Premier League club keen on him. However, this is exactly the kind of ambition that the Foxes need to show to get into Europe next season.
Sarr has been in unbelievable form for Rennes this season, having scored 12 and assisted 11 in all competitions so far. The 21-year-old has been hugely impressive with his ability to take on players in the wide areas and his finishing has been surprisingly clinical for someone so young.
Sarr rose to the spotlight after his performance against Arsenal in the Europa League this season. The youngster played a massive part in leading his side to a 3-1 victory over the Gunners in the first leg at the Emirates and looked a constant threat throughout the game.
The 21-year-old is capable of playing on both wings but his best performances this season have come from the right flank. Sarr possesses electric pace and it is almost impossible to catch him when he is set free down the line.
He combines pace with his terrific dribbling skills to cause all sorts of problems to the opposition defence and he has had huge success in doing so this season. The winger has a very good understanding of the game and his decision-making skills in tight areas are quite sublime.
The youngster is equally dangerous while holding the width as well as when cutting in to have an impact more centrally. His crosses are a dream for a centre-forward and someone like Jamie Vardy will really enjoy playing alongside him next season.
