Leicester City could pull off a masterstroke by signing this £70,000-a-week Liverpool superstar

Why Leicester City should sign Nathaniel Clyne in January

According to reports in the Sun, Leicester City are plotting a move for Liverpool right-back Nathaniel Clyne. The 27-year-old suffered a back injury prior to the start of 2017/18 season, which forced him out of action for around six-eight months.

As a result, Trent Alexander-Arnold took his place at right-back last season and revelled. To be fair to the youngster, he grabbed his chance with both hands, keeping Clyne out of action even though he has recovered from his injury.

Leicester have made a decent start to the season and currently find themselves tenth in the league table. Although they have played some good football, there is one area where they are lacking genuine quality. Failure to boost their options at right-back could return to haunt them and hence, the Foxes must pursue a solid player to do so.

Until now, manager Claude Puel has fielded either Daniel Amartey or Ricardo Pereira in that position. Unfortunately, both players have looked uncomfortable at all times.

While the former is a combative midfield player, the latter is a flying winger who loves to go forward at every given opportunity.

Looking at this attribute-wise, Amartey struggles there because he is a midfielder, meaning he doesn’t have the pace to move up and down the pitch. Meanwhile, Pereira is more attack-oriented and struggles to concentrate on both facets of his game as a full-back.

With that in mind, signing Clyne in January could be a great move for Leicester. The 27-year-old, whose contract runs down in the summer of 2020, currently earns £70,000-a-week. If he makes the move, he would certainly be offered a regular place in the team. And since he is quite low in the pecking order at Anfield, the player should be open for a move.

Conclusion

Talk about a potential deal which could satisfy both parties!

Nathaniel Clyne must play football on a consistent basis since it will enable him to challenge for the England spot. On the flip side, Leicester City need a right-back due to the aforementioned reasons.
