Leicester City signing this world-class World Cup finalist would be a big statement of intent from Rodgers – agreed?

Leicester City opinion: The Foxes should make a move for Ivan Perisic

According to Tuttomercatoweb (h/t Leicester Mercury), Leicester City are very interested in making a move for Inter Milan star Ivan Perisic. The report further adds that while the 30-year-old did struggle immensely this season, the Foxes believe that he is their man.

However, Leicester are not the only English side in the race with Arsenal, Tottenham and even West Ham, all linked with moves. While that does complicate things for the Foxes, this is a rather shocking development but it’s a nice surprise to see their ambition improving.

That has been one of the club’s biggest issues since winning the Premier League title. Claudio Ranieri and his 5000/1 odds team will go down in history but things since then have not been rosy.

A lot of their transfers since then have flopped and done so terribly with Islam Slimani, Kelechi Iheanacho, and even Demarai Gray all struggling.

One look at their books over the last three years, and it doesn’t make for good reading. While there are a few bright sparks in Wilfred Ndidi, James Maddison, Ricardo Pereira and a few others, the flops outweigh the successes. Things need to change.

But by bringing in Brendan Rodgers as their next manager in January of 2019, the Foxes proved that their ambition to improve is still there. The former Liverpool boss made an immediate impact at the club, even changing the course of Jamie Vardy’s career.

However, more importantly, Rodgers has started creating an identity for the club, which neither Craig Shakespeare nor Claude Puel managed to do.

The 30-year-old is a winger by trade and has also played as a wing-back for Inter Milan. That has seen him win plaudits for his performances over the last few seasons in the Serie A.

However, this season has seen Perisic struggle to maintain his form, producing just 17 goals in 45 appearances with eight goals in the Serie A.

His struggle comes after a rather great World Cup campaign with Croatia, where they finished as runners-up to France. The 29-year-old was among their top players and Manchester United was interested in signing him, but failed.

Despite that struggle, Perisic still remains a hard-working and talented star, one that finished his season with a bang, contributing to five goals in his final eight games. It’s that talent and work-ethic that Leicester City need to look at and not his post-transfer saga days.

Conclusion

With Antonio Conte’s appointment, the Nerazzurri are moving towards a new generation and it does give Leicester City a chance.

While there is no doubting how good Ivan Perisic is, the 30-year-old is not a part of the new kids, instead, he’s a scathing reminder of the old days, where Juventus dominated.

Conte is looking to change that and it’s an advantage that Leicester City have to capitalize on.
