Leicester would be going backwards by signing this Brighton star as Maguire replacement – agreed?

Leicester City opinion: The Foxes shouldn’t sign Lewis Dunk

According to reports in the Leicester Mercury, Leicester City are looking to bring in Lewis Dunk this summer to shore up their defence. This is due to the uncertainties with regards to Harry Maguire’s future at the club. The Leicester centre-back’s performances for the club and the national team have seen him grow as a player.

The England international was phenomenal in last year’s FIFA World Cup and saw his reputation grow as one of the Premier League’s very best centre-backs. His fellow countryman, Brighton captain – Lewis Dunk, seems to be his replacement, according to the report.

Dunk is a solid defender, great at winning aerial duels, full of heart in his challenges and has been a force for the Seagulls as he was for them in the Championship.

Lewis Dunk

Dunk is seen as a symbol for the Seagulls, a boyhood supporter and now their captain. Everything is in place for him to end up as a legend on the coast.

Despite all his strengths, he isn’t much like Maguire. Like most British centre-backs, Dunk is good in the air and a match for the very best aerially. That said, he doesn’t have the ball-carrying ability that Maguire possesses and is required of a modern centre-back.

The bid is worth £40m according to the report, which is far too high a number. Leicester shouldn’t fall into the trap of paying that humongous fee.

Brendan Rodgers has a reputation for prioritizing possession-based football and Dunk doesn’t fit those principles. On the other hand, Brighton need their leader to carry them through what could be another very difficult season in the Premier League.

Conclusion

Leicester need to continue building a side that can compete for European football and keeping Maguire is a priority. Dunk, on the other hand, should be looking to continue his progress at Brighton and make sure they survive another difficult season in the Premier League.
