Leicester City Opinion: Why Alfonso Pedraza will be a good fit for the Foxes?

Leicester City defender Christian Fuchs has managed just a solitary Premier League appearance this season, yet was not allowed to leave the club in January when Aston Villa came calling.

Aston Villa wanted to sign Fuchs on loan until with the view to make it permanent in the summer. However, Leicester kept hold of the Austrian as he is their only cover for first-choice left back Ben Chilwell.

But with Fuchs out of contract at the end of the season and no talks of an extension as of yet, Claude Puel should prioritise signing a left-back in the summer transfer window to compete with Ben Chilwell. Keeping that in mind, the Foxes should make a move for Villarreal star Alfonso Pedraza.

Alfonso Pedraza, 22, has featured in 20 league games for Villarreal this term and has established himself as a key player, contributing with a goal and three assists. He had a loan spell with Leeds in 2017 but that didn’t go as per the scripts despite the Spaniard making 14 appearances. A loan spell to Alaves, however, worked very well for Pedraza and now he’s one of the most important players for Javier Calleja’s Villarreal.

A skilful, crafty and pacey player, Pedraza can operate anywhere down the left flank. He started mainly as a left winger but has been turned into a left-back by Calleja.

Operating at left-back, Pedraza uses his pace and agility to good effect, wreaking havoc against the opposition. Robust in the tackle and energetic to continually get up and down the flank, the 22-year-old is a brilliant crosser who generates wicked pace on his deliveries into the box.

The Spain U21 international is also a tough opponent to get past in one-on-one situations. A shrewd player, Pedraza has the knack of appearing in the final third to either score a goal or create a chance for his teammates.

Conclusion

All in all, Pedraza would be the ideal signing for Puel’s Leicester City. He still has age on his side and could develop into a fantastic player.

It might come with a hefty fee having to be paid, but in the long-run, it’ll prove to be the perfect signing for the Foxes.
