Leicester signing this out-of-favour Leipzig star would properly strengthen their attack in the summer

Leicester City opinion: Should the Foxes go for Jean-Kevin Augustin?

Something that Brendan Rodgers has managed to do in his short tenure with Leicester City has been giving them an identity moving forward. While he was only appointed in January, since then the former Liverpool boss has changed the style.

No longer are they a mid-table side but serious Europa League contenders or will be with the right additions in the summer window. They fought hard and proved themselves towards the end of the season.

But had manager Claude Puel won just a few more games, there is little doubt that the club would be where Wolves are right now.

Brendan Rodgers has a full season to prove himself and more importantly two very important transfer windows. That will help the Foxes offload a few stars and hopefully bring in the right players.

Barring last summer, every single window after their title win has been terrible. Kelechi Iheanacho, Islam Slimani, Ahmed Musa and Adrien Silva had failed to make any impact whatsoever.

Things need to change and before it gets too late, the Foxes have to effectively replace Jamie Vardy at the club. Their top goalscorer for the last four seasons, now at 32, he is past his best years and it’s time the club look for a replacement.

It’s a tough job but the Telegraph has reported that Leicester City believe that Jean-Kevin Augustin can be their man. A well-built and powerful forward, Augustin possesses a great deal of pace and is agile enough to threaten any back-line.

But what makes him a good striker is the 21-year-old’s directness and ability to score goals from anywhere. The Frenchman finished last season with 12 goals and six assists in his debut season with the club and made Leipzig a force alongside Timo Werner.

The former PSG man did struggle to make an impact for PSG, but his time in the Bundesliga shows exactly what he can do. With his game time severely depleted this season, it does give Leicester City an advantage when it comes to making the move.

Augustin finished the Bundesliga season with 17 appearances, which is just 13% of the available minutes. It shows just why he needs a move and a growing Leicester City is the perfect place.

Conclusion

It’s high time Leicester City started looking for replacements and few players in the world would be as perfect as Jean-Kevin Augustin.
