Leicester signing this proven PL star for £30m would be absolute gold and Rodgers would benefit a lot

Leicester City opinion: Ayoze Perez would be a good fit for the Foxes

According to a report from BBC, Leicester City have agreed on a £30m fee with Newcastle United for forward Ayoze Perez.

The Spaniard, 25, joined Newcastle from Tenerife for £1.5m back in 2014 and has scored 48 times in all competitions in 195 appearances for the Magpies. He played in all but one of Newcastle’s Premier League matches in the 2018-19 season, scoring 12 league goals and helping the club avoid relegation.

Ayoze Perez enjoyed his best season at Newcastle last term when his form towards the back end of the campaign arguably attracted attention.

He is one of the Magpies’ most talented players and the departure of manager Rafael Benitez could have played a crucial factor in the Spanish attacker’s decision to leave the St. James’ Park.

With that in mind, will Ayoze be a hit at Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester City? Without a shadow of a doubt, yes!

The Foxes ended the 2018/19 season on a high under Brendan Rodgers, whose first few months at the King Power Stadium have been enough for the fans to be optimistic.

The Northern Irishman has completely changed his team’s dynamics, bringing in a free-flowing, attacking brand of football where wingers flourish.

Attacking players like Jamie Vardy, James Maddison, Harvey Barnes and Marc Albrighton played with more freedom and energy than they did under Rodgers’ predecessor, Claude Puel.

In an attacking Leicester side, Ayoze Perez would certainly thrive. He would compete with Vardy for a place upfront or operate as a secondary striker if Rodgers decides to play a flat 4-4-2.

Rodgers could use Ayoze’s versatility to great effect by utilising him as per the demands of the game. The 25-year-old will add a lot of pace, skill, energy and movement to the Foxes’ attack, whilst bringing in some much-needed competition for the players.

Additionally, there is a chance that Ayoze gets the opportunity to play in a number 10 role or as a playmaking midfielder should James Maddison depart this summer.

However, consistency problems along with Ayoze’s decision-making ability have often raised questions from those who watch him on a regular basis. He also needs to polish his finishing skills if he is to become a success at the King Power Stadium.

What he does with his future is completely in his hands but at the moment, the ex-Tenerife star seems ready to make the step up and join a team expected to challenge for a European spot next season.

Verdict

After spending five long years with Newcastle, a move to Leicester could be a step in the right direction for Ayoze, who turns 26 later this month. He’ll be entering his prime and Leicester could enjoy the best years of the enigmatic Spaniard’s career.
