Timo Werner vs Roberto Firmino – Who Is A Better Option For Liverpool?

With just three wins so far in this campaign, Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool are not off to the best starts this season. Their defensive frailties have come to the fore to deny them points on more than one occasion this season but Klopp has found a new problem with Liverpool’s numbers at the other end.

With their last 120 shots against opponents from all competitions, Liverpool have scored just 5 goals and have conceded twice the amount, and this has now given Klopp another headache.

Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Philippe Coutinho have all made decent starts to the campaign but Brazilian ace Roberto Firmino has not been able to show consistency and this has seen a number of fans call for the club to sign an outright striker.

A number of big names have been linked with a move to Anfield in recent times but one player who could be perfect under Klopp is German sensation Timo Werner.

Considered as a future star of the German national team, the RB Leipzig striker is bang in form in the Bundesliga at the moment. Liverpool are one of many big clubs fighting for his signature but how does he compare to Liverpool’s current no.9?

Liverpool
Roberto Firmino (Number 11)

With a return of 21 goals and 7 assists in 31 domestic league appearances, the 21-year old has been in similar form this season, picking up 5 goals in 6 games so far. Firmino, who has not been at his best, has just 2 goals and 2 assists to show for.

With a pass completion of 78%, Werner has 7 key passes to his name and has created 7 chances for his side this season. Firmino has a passing accuracy of 72% but he has created 10 chances, with 8 key passes to his name.

The Liverpool man is also better in tricky situations, with a successful take-on rate of 53.85% while Werner’s way lesser than that. However, Werner is slightly stronger in the air, winning 28.57% of his aerial duels compared to just the 22.22% by Firmino.

Werner has won three fouls and has made three interceptions so far this season and this is where Firmino is a better asset for Liverpool. Though he has not been effective this season, the Brazilian has 22 interceptions to his name but Werner has shown that he can match it, with 21 to his name last season.

At just 21, the German goal scorer is currently one of the best youngsters in Europe and Liverpool will be blessed with insane goal scoring prowess if they land him in the next couple of transfer windows.
