Liverpool holding onto £39m star amidst PSG interest would be a big statement of intent on the European stage – agreed?

Why Liverpool should hold onto Fabinho amidst interest from Paris Saint-Germain

According to L’Equipe France, Paris Saint-Germain are interested in swooping for Liverpool new signing Fabinho. The Brazilian was bought from Monaco in the summer for a fee of around £39million. But the midfielder has been slowly installed into the squad as Klopp has taken his time with him.

It took close to one and a half months for Fabinho to make his first start. He started out in nervy fashion but the Brazilian slowly grew into the game and showed what a true player he could be under Klopp.

Liverpool should definitely hold onto the Brazilian and not jump the gun on this decision. Klopp isn’t the kind of manager to give up on his players so soon. Fabinho may have looked slightly off the pace but he has managed to dazzle in many other ways.

The Brazilian is superb with his tackling and put in the most number of tackles for the team in his first Champions League game for the club. He has since averaged 3 tackles per game in the Champions League while also boasting 2 per game in the Premier League.

His short and long-range passing have also looked really crisp. The 25-year-old has been spot on with his passes and has rarely played a wrong one. Fabinho has averaged a pass success rate of 84.35% in the Premier League and 87.1% in the Champions league. Fabinho is also very good at set-pieces and taking spot-kicks. Liverpool have lacked a prolific midfield shooter in the squad and could really use his services in that department. (Stats courtesy – Whoscored)

It’s clearly evident why Klopp took his time with the Brazilian. Fabinho has lacked pace at times and seems to get beaten by the opposition running at him. Should they manage to beat him pace for pace, the Brazilian also finds it difficult to track back quickly enough.

If Fabinho intends to thrive as a proper holding midfielder under Klopp, he has to show vast improvements and maturity in his displays. But that doesn’t mean Liverpool have to offload the former Monaco star so soon.

He surely hasn’t been given enough time to prove himself. Klopp has rarely made a bad transfer since arriving at Anfield and the management must trust his decisions. Liverpool are also going to be short in the midfield department if they offload Fabinho.
