Liverpool Latest: Former Reds Striker Gets A Taste Of His Own Medicine + Lille Defender’s Interest In Moving To Anfield

Liverpool Transfer News - Aurelien Chedjou Welcomes The Reds' Interest

With club stalwart Jamie Carragher retired, manager Bendan Rodgers would surely like to add a few options to the centre back. One of the player that Rodgers has been monitoring for a long time now is Cameroonian international Aurélien Chedjou who plays for Lille in the French Ligue 1.

Having said this it should be mentioned that the ride would not be smooth for the Merseyside club as Newcastle and Turkish giants Galatasaray are reportedly tracking the defender.

Chedjou has been one of the most solid defenders for his club this season and at the age of 27, he is not some average player from the French Ligue1 and infact he has gained attraction of European clubs due to his hard work and dedication as he has overcomed some very difficult times at Villarreal’s youth academy and have struggled to break into the first team. However, after joining Lille back in 2007, he has improved as a player and one of the biggest stars in the French league.

When the Liverpool transfer target was asked about the possibility of joining the English club, the 27-year-old said:  “Liverpool could be great. An enormous club with fantastic fans and the Kop to add. Nothing is done with any club. Yes, I want to move from Lille and get another experience of my life.” – concluded Chedjou.

Although he has maintained till now that no formal offers have been made by any of the sides, it looks more than a possibility for Chedjou to play at Anfield next season. If Rodgers has to push for the fourth spot next summer, he would need enforcements in his squad. The transfer of Aurélien Chedjou may just prove to be the foundation stone for the club.

Although Roger’s ambition to sign more players may be hit with the board allocating just £20m to the transfer budget but captain Steven Gerrard has insisted that the club spends more. But we have to wait for the summer to find out where Aurélien Chedjou is heading to.

In other news Former Liverpool star El Hadji Diouf has been beaten by a gang of youths in a Dakar restaurant’s toilet. According to the Modern Ghana website, it is reported that the 32-year-old, former Liverpool and current Leeds United forward, who was enjoying a night out in an ‘upscale area of the jetset in Dakar’ when he was set upon at around 4.30am by a gang of youths who bundled him into the toilets before beating him seriously.

A witness who saw Diouf’s bodyguards – reportedly Senegalese wrestlers – come to his aid, said Diouf was drunk and shouting, “You’re all zero, you’re poor, you’re not connected”.

El Hadji Diouf who spent two years at Anfield, can most certainly be branded as one of worst signings Liverpool has ever made. His 8 goals from over 80 appearances were overshadowed when he commented about Liverpool talisman Steven Gerrard labelling him as “egotistical” and that “Gerrard would rather have Liverpool lose and him scoring”

It is not only his comments that made fans hate him, Diouf was involved in several bust-ups including a nightclub punch up in Manchester when he was arrested along with 5  other men. One man was seriously injured and Diouf was bailed for a week. It is safe to say that Diouf has tasted his own medicine.
