Liverpool Latest Including: Interests On Real Madrid Striker And Downing’s Interview From Jakarta

Alvaro+Morata

If reports are to be believed, Brendan Rodgers is seeing another La Liga striker this season after successful negotiations of Iago Aspas and Luis Alberto. Both Liverpool and Sevilla are alleged to be interested in Real Madrid starlet Alvaro Morata, the 20-year old Spanish forward who is yet to make a sizeable impact on the big league.

But being a member of the Spain Under-21 squad that have won UEFA European Under-21 championship this year, Morata is considered to be a promising player and has showed glimpses of his potential last season.

Morata is expected to get more exposure if he arrives signs for the Merseyside, after his meagre performance in La Liga last season which saw him on the first team for 14 times for the Galacticos, that too as a sub, and only managed to net twice. And if Gonzalo Higuain stays at the Bernabeu, then Morata will inevitably look for a possible shift and a better acknowledgment to his abilities.

And keeping in mind of Brendan Rodgers’ game-plan, which is similar to that of the Spanish style, Liverpool will be a favorable manoeuvre for him.

In other news, Liverpool’s England International Stewart Downing has vowed to fight for his place both in Liverpool and the England squad. The 28-year-old midfielder who has been a bit part player of England’s national side since his debut back in 2005 has only been capped 33 times and having seen the best of his form in a Reds jersey during the second half of the previous campaign, Downing has promised that he would fight to get back into contention on a more regular basis.

After initial interests from West Ham’s Sam Allardyce and a few other clubs combined with the arrival of several players, it was initially thought that Rodgers might consider selling the midfielder. But Downing has remained at Anfield and has traveled with the rest of the Squad for the Club’s far east tour to Asia.

Quoted by the Sun, Speaking after touching down in Jakarta, Downing said:

“Leaving is not something I am going to consider. I think there have been a couple of rumours going around and maybe that’s because I was told last season I could go. But I have spoken to the manager and he’s told me he’s happy for me to stay. As far as I see it, I’m here to play.

“He wants to build a squad and not dismantle it. If I’m not in the team and not playing, that is a discussion we will have to have then. But at the minute, I have absolutely no reason to leave.

Downing added: “I was really happy with how the second half of last season went for me. I got a good run at it and now I just want to carry on. I just have to make sure I stay in the team. Some new players have come in and obviously a few more will arrive.

“If they do, then so be it — I am ready for what’s coming and I am ready for the challenge.”
