Liverpool Player ratings against Chelsea
Chelsea handed Liverpool their second defeat in as many games in the last game of this year’s Premier League as the home side won an excruciating match by the thinnest of margins. The Reds from Merseyside hardly got their strides going in a fiery atmosphere at Stamford Bridge but took the lead early on when Martin Skrtel poked home after Luis Suarez’s deflected header. Chelsea restored parity when Hazard beat his international team mate Simon Mingolet with a blistering curler from outside the box. It was then Samuel Eto’o who scored the winner following a brilliantly and well time timed tap in from Oscar’s pass clever pass inside the box. The home side held on for a huge win which propelled them third on the table while Liverpool dropped to fifth.
Here is Soccersouls’ very own player ratings for Liverpool from Stamford Bridge.
Simon Mingolet: He was helpless when Eden Hazard curled in a superb shot from outside the box but was to blame for Eto’o short range tap in which could have been saved. He showed poor shot saving technique.
Rating: 1.5/5
Glen Johnson: One of the games which the English international would want to quickly forget. Johnson did barge forward at times but he was nowhere to be seen tracking back and helping his defence. Produced a great shot in the second half which forced Cech to dive to his left and save.
Rating: 2/5
Martin Skrtel: Got the goal early on but was found wanting from Hazard’s equalizer. Put in a great sliding tackle in the second half to deny Eto’o a clear goal scoring opportunity.
Rating: 2.5/5
Sakho: Chelsea’s attacking fluidity and movement off the ball caused the French International all sorts of problems. He was strong on tackles but should have closed down Hazard if not for his poor positioning.
Rating: 2/5
Daniel Agger: The Dane played out of position throughout the match, did well but his crossing was way off the mark.
Rating: 2/5
Joe Allen: Another forgettable game for the Welshman, which unfortunately is getting into a habit with each passing game. Did nothing in the middle of the park and substituted early in the second half.
Rating: 1.5/5
Lucas Leiva: Not a great game for the Brazilian, wasn’t assured in the central defensive midfield position. He was asked to protect the back four but hardly lived up to his billing.
Rating: 2/5
Jordan Henderson: The England International wasn’t assured in position in the middle of the park, neither he found his passing range.
Rating: 2/5
Phillipe Coutinho: Unfortunately the Brazilian had a day off and was quite selfish on the ball which didn’t help the Liverpool cause.
Rating: 2/5
Luis Suarez: Credit to Chelsea that they isolated the Uruguayan up front. Suarez hardly had a chance on goal and dropping deeper reignited the cause that Liverpool needs Sturridge badly.
Rating: 2/5
Howard Webb
What a terrible game from him. Two penalties not given. Second incident happened right before his eyes. FLOP OF THE GAME.
Rating: 1/5
