Why Hakan Calhanoglu would be a brilliant signing for Liverpool
According to a report from Calciomercato, AC Milan are looking to sell playmaker Hakan Calhanoglu this summer after a disappointing season.
The Turkey international, 25, has failed to live up to the expectations at AC Milan following his move from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2017. He arrived in Italy with a reputation for scoring goals from midfield but managed just three goals in 36 Serie A games last campaign. As it stands, Milan are willing to offload Calhanoglu in order to cut their losses.
Back in 2015, the Metro had claimed that Liverpool were interested in signing Hakan Calhanoglu, who was then plying his trade for Bayer Leverkusen. However, now with Milan ready to sell the Turkish midfielder this summer, the time is absolutely right for Liverpool to reignite their interest in the player.
The Reds are yet to replace Philippe Coutinho since his departure to Barcelona last January. While it has barely affected Liverpool last season in the attack, there is a need why Jurgen Klopp should sign a replacement for the Brazilian this summer.
Liverpool came tantalizingly close to winning their first Premier League title, only to lose to Manchester City on the final day of the season despite winning their last game against Wolves.
They have an array of midfielders but lack a creative playmaker who can carve open defences with ease and take the burden away from their front three without compromising their usual high-pressing style of football.
That’s when signing Hakan Calhanoglu would make complete sense for the Merseysiders. The AC Milan star is an attacking midfielder by trade but he can play in an advanced role in the midfield three and even on the left flank. He is moderately paced, which explains why he can cover so much ground and influence the game with vision and passing skills.
The Turkey international is known for his superior distribution and for his impressive shooting accuracy, especially from distance. Time and time again, Calhanoglu has shown that he is one of the most dangerous midfielders in Europe when he gets a good look at goal from far out, chiefly from dead-ball situations.
In fact, the 25-year-old is one of the most feared free-kick takers in Europe while his deliveries from set-pieces could be tailor-made for the English game.

At 25, the ex-Bayer Leverkusen man is now entering the prime of his career and could be a shrewd purchase for Liverpool.
His style of play is built for the Premier League and with players like Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah in the team, he would thrive in Klopp’s exciting system at Anfield.
Without any second thoughts, Calhanoglu would be a perfect fit for Liverpool, who will once again push to win the Premier League title next season.
