Liverpool reviving their interest in this 25-year-old Serie A star would solve a key issue for Klopp

Liverpool FC Opinion: Why should the Reds revive interest Piotr Zielinski

It would be a stretch to say that Liverpool were a complete side last season, despite them winning the Champions League title.

Jurgen Klopp’s midfield was completely out of sorts throughout the campaign, yet the German manager escaped because of his top-class attack and defence.

As there is no need for a squad overhaul at the moment, the former Dortmund gaffer should make necessary midfield reinforcements ahead of the new season.

Jurgen Klopp

That being said, Napoli’s Piotr Zielinski, who was once on the transfer radar of the Reds, holds the key for resuscitating the midfield department at Anfield.

What Zielensiki can offer to Klopp? The right guy to end their midfield crisis?

The Polish midfielder has been at the heart of Napoli’s midfield since his arrival in 2016. Over the course, he has scored 20 goals and 9 assists – stats which might not look appealing, but his creativity and the tendency to anchor the play are some of his traits which often go unnoticed.

Before his switch to Napoli, the 25-year-old had his spells with Empoli and Udinese. He has also earned 43 caps for his national team.

Piotr Zielinski

As far as the last season’s stats are concerned, Zielinski held a pass success rate of 90% with an average of 2.2 shots attempted per game. He also completed an average of 1 dribble per game with 1.6 key passes.

Given that, the Polish ace should be the leader in general of the Reds’ midfield, and would raise the competition for the injury-prone Naby Keita.

Being a central midfielder by trade, Zielinski can also function effectively as a creative playmaker, the position which the Reds are in dire need of reinforcing.

Zielinski’s presence would complement the attacking trio of Klopp, whose creative burden would reduce considerably.

Verdict

The Merseyside club shouldn’t forget how they got piped out by Manchester City in the Premier League title race. Keeping that in mind, Klopp should sign a quality midfielder like Zielinski before the start of the next season.
