Liverpool spending just £8m to land this fantastic Celtic star would help them win the title race for sure

Why Liverpool should sign James Forrest in the summer

According to a report in the Sun, Premier League leaders Liverpool want to sign Celtic winger James Forrest. Jurgen Klopp has been tracking the 27-year-old for several months now and could make a move for him in the summer transfer window.

The Scotland international has been in great form this season, which justifies the Reds’ interest. Forrest is a key part of Brendan Rodgers’ setup at the Parkhead and the Hoops would demand at least £8m if the Merseysiders do make an offer.

As per the report, Liverpool aren’t looking to make a new signing in the January window, but are open to adding to the squad after the end of this season. Here’s why they should sign Forrest in the summer:

Forrest would add attacking backup

We all know about the talent and prowess the attacking line-up of Liverpool possesses. Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah are one of the deadliest front three in the world right now. The system of play under Klopp also helps in getting the best out of them.

While the Reds are happy that the trio is doing well since the start of last season and are enhancing their reputation every time they step on to the field, there is a feeling that a backup of comparable quality would be required if they are to challenge on all fronts in the coming years.

The team is leading the race for the league but due to the lack of quality squad depth, especially in the attack, they were left to rue the missed chances in cup competitions. With all due respect to Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi, they are not good enough if Liverpool are to win trophies.

The Reds have Xherdan Shaqiri who is doing a good job, however, more players will be required. This is where someone like Forrest would be a fantastic addition. The Scot is a wonderful player who can play on either wing.

He has scored 8 goals and supplied 9 assists in 18 league appearances this season, which just goes on to show that the numbers are backing his impressive form.

If the 27-year-old arrives at Anfield in the summer, he would add a different dimension to the squad and Klopp’s men can challenge to win every competition on offer.
