It never is a good sign for a team when the manager starts to question the performance of the team, its worse when the manager gets at one player after a performance. Brendan Rodgers and Liverpool’s nightmare start to the season continued in their midweek performance against Ludogorets where they came out with a hard fought 2-2 draw.
They still have their fate in their own hands in the UEFA Champions League but Simon Mignolet again came under fire from his boss when the Belgian was responsible for the first goal which Liverpool conceded against the Bulgarian team, Mignolet was a little better in the 1-0 win over Stoke on Saturday but it could be time to replace the goalkeeper who has failed to improve his performances over last season and is still seen as one of the weak links in the Liverpool back 5.
Mignolet isn’t very commanding in his box and his communication channels with the centre backs is almost non-existent which often leads to glaring errors where either he or the defence is caught out. He isn’t the best when coming out to collect crosses and looks quite jittery as soon as a corner is taken from the opposition, the only good attribute about his game is that he is a great one on one shot stopper, barring that, it’s not good news for the Belgian and he could be one of the players who is replaced by Rodgers, here are 3 possible replacements for the Belgian.
1. Petr Cech
The big Czech goalkeeper has been replaced by another Belgian, the younger Thibaut Courtois, whose performances have been stellar for Chelsea. Cech needs to consistently play games and is searching for a new home away from the London club.
The 32 year old might be a little old when compared to the 26 year old Mignolet but as a goalkeeper he is miles ahead of Mignolet, Cech is strong and commanding in his box and is great when coming out to collect the ball from crosses or corners.
Petr Cech is a 3 time golden glove winner for Chelsea and is the record holder for most clean sheets kept for the Blues which stands at 220, getting him from Chelsea might be one of the best moves to help Liverpool in their goalkeeper problem.
