“Lucky to still be in it”: Some relieved Rangers fans react to fortunate 1-1 draw vs Aberdeen + Match report

Aberdeen vs Rangers FC Report: Rangers FC Match Report

Rangers came back from a goal behind to force a replay against Aberdeen after a 1-1 draw. This crucial Scottish Cup quarterfinal began with the away side knocking on the door early with a couple of decent chances for Gers striker Alfredo Morelos, which he wasn’t able to take advantage of.

As a few minutes passed by, Rangers’ grip on the game slowly started to come under fire from the Aberdeen attackers as the home side, backed up by an extremely vocal support, began to make their presence in the game felt.

Despite the strong start from Steven Gerrard’s men, they were unable to capitalise on their chances and they were made to severely pay for this in the 10th minute.

Gary Mackay-Steven was brought down by Connor Goldson inside the box and the referee didn’t hesitate for a second before pointing to the spot and awarding the Dons a penalty kick in this crucial cup tie.

Sam Cosgrove stepped up to take the responsibility of the penalty kick and although Allan McGregor did get a hand, the power of the shot was too much for him to keep out.

The goal opened up the game in the midfield and despite the Gers’ best efforts, Aberdeen were the better side for the entirety of the first period and they got multiple chances to showcase their superiority as well.

The second half began with more attacking intent from the away side as they looked to push for the equaliser to keep their Scottish Cup dream alive.

With Celtic seemingly running away with the Premiership, this competition was Gerrard’s only realistic hope of a trophy this season and all of that determination paid off in the 48th minute.

A set-piece from the flank was delivered into the box with great aplomb by Ryan Kent. His ball picked out Joe Worrall in the box and he finished excellently with what can be classed as a scissor kick.

After this, the game got really feisty as both teams began to push for the goal to secure a semi-final berth but they were unable to find the net despite creating multiple chances.
