Man City And Guardiola Will Have Very Few Options Left If They Miss Out On This £40m Ligue 1 Star

Pep Guardiola

Why Manchester City Have To Make A Quick Move For Benjamin Mendy This Summer

Manchester City have been a busy club since the end of the previous season as Pep Guardiola is looking to add some top quality stars to his squad, to make sure that he does not go another season without a trophy. He has already made a couple of serious signings but still has a few problems that he needs to solve at the club this summer.

One such position that City need to find cover for quickly is the left-back position. Aleksandar Kolarov is the only senior left-back in the squad at the moment as Guardiola has already let Gael Clichy and Bacary Sagna leave the club. The Citizens need a genuine first team option that can slot in this position and there are not many options available in the transfer market.

Though City have constantly been linked with a move for Southampton star Ryan Bertrand this summer, they might want to look at a more exciting player who can fit into Guardiola’s style of play quickly and the best option for them right now is the French starlet making waves in Ligue1.

AS Monaco’s incredible season in France has introduced the world to a group of superstars in the making and the 22-year old Benjamin Mendy is one of many such names that has been linked with a move to England.

Also wanted by Chelsea and Liverpool, Mendy is an explosive full-back who loves to dictate the play in the final third on his flank. He is quick, strong, and is secure at the back, while his technique on the ball makes him a dangerous outlet up front.

He is perfect for the former Barcelona manager’s system at the Etihad and should not take too long to get used to it. At his age, he is only going to improve as a player and Guardiola needs to do what it takes to land him this summer.

According to reports, Manchester City have already made a £40m bid for his services which was rejected but with very few alternatives in the current transfer market, Guardiola should not waste any time in snapping him up.

Money is not a problem for Manchester City this summer and with Mendy an actual first team necessity next season, it is imperative that the Citizens land their top transfer target for next season. Barcelona’s Jordi Alba is the only real player City can aim at, if they miss out on Mendy. But it is hard to see the Catalan giants let their star player leave, making Mendy that much more important for the Manchester club.
