Man City signing this world-class Spanish star would get them a perfect successor for the ageing Silva

Why Manchester City should sign Real Madrid star Isco

According to a report in the Daily Express, Manchester City have been linked with the signature of Real Madrid’s Isco with not much time left for the English summer transfer window to close.

City will start their campaign a little early with the Community Shield game against Liverpool and will have to make certain that they make their mind up on their transfer activity soon.

David Silva has been one of the finest players in Premier League history and has been synonymous with this decade and stated that he’ll be heading into his final year at the club.

With that on the horizon, it’s important that there’s someone who can come in and do a similar job and there aren’t many players who can do a similar job than his Spanish compatriot.

Isco, 27, has been a part of an extremely successful Real Madrid side over the years and been a very important figure in some of their best seasons. He would often play as the link between the midfield and attack, providing goals and assists in a free role.

One of Isco’s strengths is that he can play off the wing, in a forward role or as an attacking midfield. The Spaniard is arguably one of the best players in the world in tight spaces as his balance and close control is as good as any player in the world today.

Pep Guardiola demands his players to be technically sound and Isco is definitely someone who fits the bill.

The only caveat would be that he’s often not been used by certain managers and the reasons for that are unknown and this was the case last season as he hardly featured. One reason for this could be that Isco isn’t the most athletic player around.

Under Pep Guardiola’s system, it’s not necessarily a criterion that needs to be met but it’s important that you intelligently close passing lanes and press for the ball as soon as you lose it.

The 27-year-old is at an age where he can still develop that side of his game and Pep Guardiola would be the perfect manager to get that out of him. This would be a great move for the player because he needs to play more games and that might be hard for Madrid this year.

Conclusion

Guardiola will also be eyeing the Champions League and the Spaniard knows a thing or two about winning one. This would be a great move for all parties.
