Man City would become literally unbeatable if they sign this home-grown duo for £80m in the summer

Why Manchester City should sign Aaron-Wan Bissaka and Ben Chilwell

According to a report in the Sun, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola wants to sign fullback duo Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Ben Chilwell. The Cityzens are eyeing up a stunning £80m move that will cover the signing of both the players.

Leicester City left-back Chilwell, who signed a new contract recently, will be worth around £50m. On the other hand, Crystal Palace right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who has had a dream first season in senior football, would be priced around £30m by the Eagles. (Sun)

Despite spending a fortune on four fullbacks in the summer of 2017, Guardiola is looking to bolster his wide defensive area. Here’s why he should buy this English duo in the summer market:

Aaron Wan-Bissaka

Home-grown and top quality

Since Benjamin Mendy arrived at the Etihad, long-term injury issues have kept him on the treatment table more than on the field. The Frenchman has only played 18 games for Manchester City in all competitions in close to one and a half seasons at the club.

Now, that is a very low number of games played by a player who was bought for £52m. Hence, we have seen City struggle at left-back, with Aymeric Laporte forced to play there or either of Danilo, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Fabian Delph deputising.

Thus, signing Ben Chilwell would be a great option for them. He is a home-grown player, which will help them in building a squad in terms of having more home-grown talents.

Meanwhile, Kyle Walker has struggled for consistency this season, and we have seen Guardiola dropping him for a few games as well. Therefore, having another home-grown option in Aaron Wan-Bissaka wouldn’t be bad.

Hence, City would do well to sign this fullback duo, who will enhance City’s options in the wide areas and add competition for places in the squad. If this move does happen, it might be the end of Mendy’s time at the Etihad, with him struggling due to long-term injuries.

Manchester City will aim to win all the competitions next season and would require squad depth of highest quality in each department. Getting two new young fullbacks will help the manager in rotating the team frequently and keep them fresh.
