Man City would go a long way in boosting their wing forces by signing this prodigious teen for £3.1m

Man City Opinion: Should Cityzens sign Felix Correia?

According to a report from The Sun, Manchester City are closing in on signing Sporting Lisbon teenager Felix Correia. It will mark their first signing of the summer and surprisingly, it is a low-profile one.

The 18-year-old will cost around £3.1million and will then be loaned out to gain more first-team experience.

Correia – one of many rising stars from Portugal

Correia caught the attention of the masses with his stint for the Portugal U17 team, bagging 6 goals in 17 appearances.

The teenager added five goals to his portfolio with the U18 side and made his U19 debut at the Toulon tournament. Primarily a winger on the left flank, Correia can be versatile if needed.

Why should the Sky Blues sign Correia?

Given City’s quality at the moment, Correia’s only chance of breaching the first-team would be by impressing during loan spells. At the same time, City should also be wary of their history with the finest talents.

The likes of Jadon Sancho and Brahim Diaz would be the perfect instances, as both players revived their careers in the best possible ways at their respective new clubs.

On the other hand, one must also be reminded of the situation of City players like Jack Harrison, who has hardly featured for the main team since his move from the MLS in 2018.

However, Pep Guardiola normally trusts youngsters, which we have seen with the cases of Phil Foden, Leroy Sane and Zinchenko. Thus, Correia could soon join the list by means of sheer hard work.

Final Verdict

The Cityzens achieved a quadruple in the 2018/19 campaign and look set to dominate from the get-go next season. Yet, the addition of youngsters to the Etihad would always be substantial and missing out on signing a talent like Correia will be a huge blunder.
