“Man of the match”, “Class”: Some Liverpool fans heap the praise on key Reds star after 0-0 draw vs Bayern + Match report

Liverpool vs Bayern Munich Report: Liverpool Match Report

Liverpool and Bayern Munich played out a goalless first leg of the Champions League last-16 tie at Anfield, leaving everything to be played for at the Allianz Arena in three weeks time.

In a game where margins of error were small, both sides were cautious, especially the visitors. Jurgen Klopp’s side began the game sloppily, allowing the Bavarians to play out from the back.

The hosts started to press after the 10-minute mark and began to induce false passes from the away side. The first big chance of the game fell to Sadio Mane in the first half, when a deflected shot fell kindly into the path of the Senegalese star, who was onside and had only Manuel Neuer to beat.

However, the attacker couldn’t sort his feet out enough to get a proper shot at goal and only managed to have an ankle poke wide of the post.

Bayern didn’t really threaten throughout the game, chiefly in the second half, when they just tried to play it safe and were happy not to concede a goal. Liverpool tried their best to create chances but there wasn’t much in between the lines or behind the line to exploit.

Mane had another chance in the second half, which he manufactured by himself. Andy Robertson delivered a great cross and Mane hurled himself at the ball to direct the header towards goal, but Neuer was there to make the save.

At the end of the day, a 0-0 draw won’t faze either team. Bayern can think of winning at their home turf, while Liverpool can weigh up the possibility of scoring an away goal and make it tough for the German champions.
